Hi, just wandering if there is anything I can do. I've got some 1080 files that have "x265" in the name. They look great on my PC, but when I transcode them to H264 to send them to my Roku they look just absolutely horrible.

I found a thread that mentioned altering the .prf file. Anyway... any tips/advice welcome.

Which Roku device do you have ? Some of them will support h.265 natively and won't need transcoding. You can try disabling transcoding for your Roku in the device tab and see if it can play the files without transcoding.

That would solve my problem, but unfortunately my Roku is one iteration behind and doesn't support h.265. I've been kicking around the idea of getting the new Roku, or maybe an Android TV streaming stick or something. Was hoping I could solve the problem at Mezzmo's end at least for the time being.

I have both the previous generation of Roku Ultra as well as the current generation. They both support h.265. I mostly only use the h.265 for 4k movies though.

Now that you said it... I must be 2 iterations behind now. It definitely doesn't play em though, cause I turn off transcoding and just transcode by hand if I have to. I rarely needed to before, but I'm getting bombarded by x265.

You've given me an idea though... I bought my parents a Roku and theirs is 1 version newer than mine... it has voice search, mine doesn't. From what you've said... I may need to do a covert operation and swap devices!

Try changing the profile to the Roku Streaming Player (Mkv) to see if the files look better.

All my mkv media files are 1080p x265 and am having no issues streaming them on my Roku streaming stick+, I've got Roku Streaming Player set as profile and also for transcoding tab for the device I have Transcode incompatible media files disabled.
