View Full Version : New Issue

I lost power to my house for a few minutes and when I restarted I have a new issue when trying to open the Mezzmo app on my "server".

I'm running Windows 10 and when I double click on the Mezzmo app to open it, it gets past the splash screen then throws up an error box that says, "Failed to Open the Destination File". Doesn't say what the file was or what the destination was or anything. My only option is to click the Ok button. When I do that, it closes down the Mezzmo app.

Any ideas?

It appears to be an issue with the database. See this similar thread http://forum.conceiva.com/showthread.php/9320-quot-Failed-to-open-destination-file-quot. The database may be corrupted so if you have a backup of the database you can go to your database folder which is usually c:\users\<username>\appData\local\Conceiva\Mezzmo and replace the database with the backup. If you don't have a backup then you may have to delete the database and start with a new clean database, you can rename or delete the Mezzmo folder in the above location to do this.

I'm not so sure that it's the database.... The reason that I say this is that I can still browse out to and watch movies through the running Mezzmo service. It's just the "desktop app" that seems to have an issue.

Possibly it will be permissions on the database if the server is running as a service. Check the permissions on the Mezzmo.db file or on the Mezzmo folder containing the database. You could also try running the Mezzmo application as administrator.

Nothing changed with that. It was all running fine and then I lost power to the box. When it came back up, this issue started.

I tried to reproduce it by changing the permissions on the Mezzmo.db to deny and also by changing the permissions on the folder to deny but this did not produce the message that you see. We do not have this message defined anywhere in Mezzmo so it may be coming from a third party library. Can you please try downloading the Mezzmo installer and run it to repair the installation files to see if this helps?

Same thing after the repair.

It appears to be saying that it is crashing in the AutoUpdate.dll which is used to check for updates to Mezzmo. When I try to run Mezzmo this morning I am getting a similar issue to you where the app won't run, possibly due to the permissions changes I made yesterday because the log is showing:

1 - Dec 03 08:54:12.249 [ThreadID:2188] - (1606946052.249) - [00] - <00> - [2188] > InitInstance

5 - Dec 03 08:54:23.911 [ThreadID:2188] - (1606946063.911) - [00] - <00> - [2188] DBE > SQLitePrepare error: 21 (unable to open database file) - PRAGMA table_info(StreamingStatus);
6 - Dec 03 08:54:26.837 [ThreadID:2188] - (1606946066.837) - [00] - <00> - [2188] DBE > SQLitePrepare error: 21 (unable to open database file) - PRAGMA table_info(Transcoding);

The permissions on these files was still set to deny access. Deleting them allowed Mezzmo to run, I would recommend enabling logging from the command line in Mezzmo http://www.mezzmo.com/wiki/doku.php?id=mezzmo_command_line_interface#logging_ 1 then see what is reported in the log.

I think I might be onto something here.

I think you guys may be experiencing some DNS issues. I cannot resolve www.conceiva.com from my DNS, Google's public DNS, nor Cloudflare's public DNS. I also tried my VPN provider and cannot resolve it either. Nor can I resolve mail.conceiva.com (I don't know if this is a legit name for your mail server).

Would the Autoupdate.DLL cause this issue if your DNS was having issues?

Obviously, forum.conceiva.com resolves just fine.

Yes we changed DNS and had some issues, they are resolved now. I could not see any problems in the log that would explain why Mezzmo is not running, there are no problems loading the database. Can you try uninstalling and re-installing?

Peter,

Just an FYI, with the DNS change your old provider was sending out SERVFAIL messages with long TTLs. This means many clients and DNS servers will cache this DNS negative response and folks will likely continue experiencing issues getting to you until the TTLs expire or they flush their caches. I had to flush my DNS server caches to get back to your domain.

Jeff

Luckily, I keep a very short TTL on my internal (to my home network) DNS servers. My next hop is a PiHole that I built myself, which then hops out to Google and Cloudflare, so I was "only" down for about 24 or 48 hours reaching Conceiva.

Is there some way I can maintain my existing database doing this? I haven't had the chance to back it up in several weeks thanks to having to rebuild all of my playlists.

Yes, when you uninstall you can choose to keep your existing Mezzmo library. There is a question in the uninstaller like 'Do you want to remove your Mezzmo library?'. You can also go to c:\users\<username>\appdata\local\Conceiva and make a copy of the Mezzmo folder to backup the database.

So I uninstalled it.... However, because, when I installed it, I named the service something other than Mezzmo, when I did the uninstall, if failed to uninstall the service with an error message stating that it could not remove the service. So I had to manually delete it using 'sc delete servicename'.

I will post again once I have it re-installed and running. I just wanted to update with the uninstall error.

Re-installed. Same error message. It also complains that the service isn't registered.

I just noticed something interesting. When I went to install it, for whatever reason, it tried to access a drive that doesn't exist, but used to.

Ok. I've been fiddling around and have made some progress. I have it working now and the service registered and everything.

Important thing to note: If your Temp or TMP paths are bad in Advanced Properties for the system, it will cause that error message. I'd recommend putting a trap for that in the code.

Unfortunately, my folders are goobered up after getting it installed. For instance, entries that have multiple folders (for instance: Movies and 4k Movies) only shows one and there is no + next to it to add another.

We will try to reproduce the problem with the tmp folder here to see if we can add some protection against it in the code. Can you please post a screenshot of the problem with the folders?

Please go to the help menu and make sure Mezzmo is registered. The + to add multiple folders is a pro feature and will not be available in the free version.

Yep. That was it. Any way you could leave the registration information in the same place you're leaving the database information on an uninstall?

Everything is golden now.

We will look into adding this to the uninstaller so that there is an option to keep the registration information.
