Didn't realize there was Mezzmo for Samsung - found it in their app store. The TV can't find any server though. Does the Samsung app require the IP or Server name to be entered manually?

Server is accepting connections and is on the same subnet.

Nevermind. I was apparently making it too difficult / thinking too much. It seems you don't need to "run" Mezzmo after installing it. After a few minutes, new INPUTS appeared in the list corresponding to the Mezzmo servers, along side HDMI-1 and HDMI-2. Nice!

Ok, just bought a much newer Samsung and it's much worse. Looking through post here this one runs the Tizen OS I guess. The Mezzmo app is not offered in the store. With the TV above, it turns out I did not need the Mezzmo app since after a while, my media servers magically appeared as Inputs on the menu. That's been working fine. Or, maybe installing Mezzmo allowed that to happen?

When this new TV "found" my Mezzmo 5 server, it was quickly added to the device list automatically as Samsung C. So it see's the server - or the server got a request for it and "allowed" access. But I can't find anyway to connect to the server to play content. There is no new input that represents the server. Maybe in a few hours the new "input" will just magically appear.

Please make sure the box in Media Devices in Mezzmo to allow new devices to connect to the server is checked.

I have what is probably a 2-year old Samsung (bought a year ago - above) that can see two different Mezzmo servers. One running 2.x I think and the other 5.x. So I could try 6.x for this TV but I don't get the feeling that it would help.

The TV itself does not have any media player app. Yet the moment I enabled Allow Other Devices (which I usually keep off) I got the popup that the connection was allowed. Then looking in the device list it was there with the exact TV model name and with the Samsung C profile. So, again, the TV SAW Mezzmo enough to request and gain access.

I'm still not sure how the TV from a year ago worked. As I stated above last year, I installed Mezzmo - thinking it was required. Then trying to use it was requiring some extra setup steps. It didn't just SEE the server and let me select it. BUT, when I came back to the TV later that day, those servers were being displayed as INPUTS on the menu, along with my other HDMI connected devices.

It works so well that I don't want to disturb that TV and try removing Mezzmo - but I was wondering if the app presence alone is what allowed the servers to appear as INPUTS - just like my TiVo. To play media on that set, I don't run Mezzmo, I just choose a server from the list of inputs and browse the folder structure.

Ok, at some point I'll come back with a summary. BUT - I spooled up a VM and installed Mezzmo 6 there. The TV (like above) had no problem requesting and getting access. HOWEVER - now BOTH servers (5 and 6) are displayed in the HDMI inputs list and SOME videos will play from 5. I should move some media to 6 and try that. Or change 5 back to the original default of Samsung C. I have NO idea why firing up 6 made any difference. Unless it kicked a bit in Samsung's DLNA logic that said DLNA devices were present. Almost like the TV didn't look deep enough before. Remember, it sent a request to 5 that was granted, but no change on the TV side after that.

Then, next step is to shut down the VM and reboot EVERYTHING. Then see if the Mezzmo 5 serve is still on the TV's INPUT list.

Maybe this TV is SUPER smart and saw/magically-detected the Roku device I pulled out to use instead. I knew I could use it with Mezzmo. Seeing that threat literally sitting on the couch, not even connected to power yet, the TV caved in and decided it WOULD work with Mezzmo after all :D

I shut down the VM, the Mezzmo 6 server went away, just as if you'd disconnected any HDMI device. BUT, Mezzmo 5 is still there and plays media. Even the media that initially didn't play before. I might have not waited long enough on that first try - the drive might have spun down and I was still in a state of shock that the inputs had appeared.

Someone writing a review for this series of Samsung also reported that it worked with their NAS. They didn't say what software was used. But at least it meant that (as you'd expect in 2022) the TV would support DLNA devices.

Lastly, I don't think I ever gave the TV info - Samsung Q60A 50 TV
