Well i was looking for a DLNA server and i just came with 2 best options:

1) Mezzmo
2) Wild Media Server

This 2 softwares have great support (playback and transcoding) for my TV (Toshiba 40UX600), but mezzmo dont have the ability to "burn" the subtitles in the movies, and the "other" does.

Well im trying the 2 soft and both are great, the pro of mezzmo its his transcoding, ot works GREATĦ, but have the trouble with sub's.

Reading in the forum i came with "the next major release will have the option for burn the subs in the video" wel... here is my question...what do you mean about "major release", a Mezzo V3? and if it is, aprox...when do we see a sneak peak???

hehehe sorry, but im going to buy a DLNA server and i want to know if ur software will do this and how much time do i have to wait until we can see this "major release" ( i think this is the question of many of us).

Thank you for the reply

According to a previous post by Dennis, a whole subtitle engine is in the works for a future version of Mezzmo. I am not sure if it will be the NEXT version, but subtitles are on their radar.

The next major version is still in development and one of the features is a completely new subtitling engine - including 'burning in' subtitles so that any DLNA device can display subtitles. Sorry no sneak peek yet :(. In the meantime, we will continue to support you all with minor updates to fix bugs and improve the device profiles so Mezzmo can stream your files to your DLNA devices. Thanks for your patience on this.

Since this would be a loaded question for the Conceiva folks to answer, allow me to step in. ;)

I tried a couple of DLNA servers over time. I ended up settling with Mezzmo for a few reasons:

1) Actively developed AND supported. The one I was using before that was getting 1-2 minor update a year. Mezzmo seems to be getting one every 2 months on average, and the Conceiva folks answer support questions within 24 hours in general (barring weekends, of course).
2) Wild Media Server charge you one licence per single device. That means this would be insanely expensive for me as I have my PS3, a WDTV Live, an iPod Touch and an Android smartphone. On top of the fact that it's more expensive than Mezzmo, that makes it something to consider when choosing a DLNA server.
3) Creating your own custom folder organization is a breeze with Mezzmo, and unmatched by others. You can do a lot of things through the GUI.
4) Transcoding is always the trickiest part of any DLNA server, and Conceiva are on top of things. Transcoding issues related to device profiles are usually resolved within a few days, and you can also even fine tune it yourself by editing the XML config file yourself if you want.

In the end, it will be a matter of deciding how much subs are worth to you right now. Mezzmo is still missing a few important features to clearly become a leader, but the developers are open to ideas and seem to be open to implementing new features in future versions (having some sort of preview or "here's a list of what is already done in next version" from Conceiva would rock BTW ;) ).

If you buy Mezzmo now, then you can use your serial/license key to register the new version without any additional charge.
