No files showing up - Cisco E3000 media share

Hi, I just downloaded the free version to test it out for my Samsung C-series TVs and hopefully to find somethign a little better than the Samsung PC Share thing.

I have mezzmo running on my Win7x64 PC, and all my media is on a USB drive attached to my Cisco E3000 router. I was able to add all the directories and stuff from inside Mezzmo, so I figured it was good to go.

But no luck... I can see the Mezzmo server from everything in my house, but there are no files under any of the categories. When I added the directories, the status screen showed it making 100s of video thumbnails and image thumbnails and all that, so I know it "saw" the files.

Is there a trick to using a network share as a source? Is this somethign I can do with mezzmo or not? Thanks

Mezzmo GUI and Mezzmo server have different permissions, from the OS' point of view, so that's why files may not show up on the server, even when they are there in the GUI.

The first thing to check is if you have the same login/password on your share as you do on your Windows (the ones you used to registrer the Mezzmo server). Also check that "guest" accounts are enabled on the share as well.

If none of the above helps, please send a message to support (at) conceiva (dot) com and we'll go through more things to check based on your specific hardware.

Ahh, ok added the PC's user to the cisco media server share and now can browse/play files.

seems like some .mkvs are being transcoded though, when the Samsung C-series should be able to play natively. Also for some reason a few files(.mkvs) simply say "format not supported", but play fine in Samsung PC Share or via Win Media

how do I know for sure if something is being transcoded or not?

It's hard to say for sure if something is transcoded or not at the moment, without looking at the Task Manager (to see whether CPU is being used and if there's an ffmpeg.exe running). We'll add the ability to see server/transcoder status in a future version.

Depending on your exact TV model, you may also try the "Samsung BDP" profile, as it may be a closer match.

yea i noticed ffmpeg running last nite well after i quit playign a movie... is that normal for mezzmo to continue to transcode the entire movie even if you stop playback?

i'll try the BDP profile tonite and see how it works on my 2 Samsung TVs - a LN55C650 and a UN37C5000

Yes, if you have background transcoding turn on (by default it's on), then Mezzmo will finish transcoding movies when you're not playing anything.
