native file and transcoding

I am in need of transcoding my files myself in order to get the subtitles to show. I am using a Sony BDP-S570 and my DLNA client. What file type should I transcode my original file to so that Mezzmo does not once again transcode the file? In other words, what format would be native to Mezzmo or my Sony BDP-S570?

I hope I am asking this question properly. Please let me know if I need to clarify.

You can transcode to an h264 video and ac3 audio in an mpeg-ts container and that'll be passed through natively to the BDP.
