How can I download files from FileSonic with a premium account?

thank you.

Peter

FileSonic uses a cookie PHPSESSID to identify you when you download, you will need to login using your premium account username and password in your browser (make sure you check the box 'Remember me') and then DownloadStudio can use this cookie to download files from FileSonic. If you are using Firefox you will need to close firefox after you login to flush the cookies to disk so that DownloadStudio can access them.

I logged in to my Filesonic account.
Closed Firefox.
Restarted Firefox.
Tried to download a file with downloadStudio, but the downloaded file is an empty (8Kb) file.

any further help is much appreciated.

Have you visited the filesonic page for the download in your web browser to make sure the link is valid? If you open the downloaded 8kb file in notepad what does it show?

the download link is valid, because I can download it with JDownloader.
If I open the downloaded file by DownloadStudio in notepad, it's reads as following.

Bad Hash

thank you for trying to help

The actual file download links for filesonic look like:
http://s39.filesonic.com/download/32266737/4d674052/1ec59f1/0/1/3aa0522d/14975cea5f15cc1c2eaed070e67814bae56e420d
This link is contained on the page:
http://www.filesonic.com/file/r000216945/32266737/topgear_11_10.pdf

So in order to turn http://www.filesonic.com/file/r000216945/32266737/topgear_11_10.pdf into a valid download link DownloadStudio needs to parse the html returned by the request and find the download url. Or we can have a look a JDownloader and see what it's doing. We'll have a look at this next week and see if we can add this into DownloadStudio 7.0.

Until we make any changes, in order to download from filesonic you will need to visit the page that hosts the download link in your browser, e.g. http://www.filesonic.com/file/r000216945/32266737/topgear_11_10.pdf, and click on the download link so that DownloadStudio can catch the download for you.

FileSonic suggests JDownloader for downloading files from their servers.
I simply downloaded JDownloader and added my filesonic account info.
It's downloading my files without actually opening the download pages.

It's a little bit wierd, though I'm not sure if it's only me or if it's just what it should be.
If I click a download link in FireFox and select JDownloader to use it as the download manager,
JDownloader fails to download the file.
But if I drag the download link into JDownloader's main window, the download starts.

In any case it's working for me, but I prefer to use DownloadStudio if possible.
Any kind of workaround to let me continue using DownloadStudio, is much appreciated.

I purchased a premium FileSonic account for testing and found that I can use DownloadStudio if I am logged in to FileSonic in my web browser and I check the box 'Remember me' (It is very important to check this box, if you don't then DownloadStudio cannot find your login cookie). Now when I add any link to DownloadStudio from FileSonic http://www.filesonic.com/file/r000216945/107499541/Topgear.16E05.hdtv.rar the correct file is downloaded.

I'm sorry for making you purchase an account which you don't need.
I could send my account info if you had asked. After all, you use it just for testing and I'm sure it's not against rules.

I'm dieing to know how did you do it.
How did you add the download links to DownloadStudio?

the following link is a screen capture of what I do.
In this movie, you'll see that I first click a link in Firefox and firefox starts downloading the file.
It shows that I'm logged in to my filesonic account and the necessary cookie is already set.

next I drag a link to DownloadStudio's Drop Window and after receiving an alart, I receive a failed error in DownloadStudio.
Later I copy the same link and in DownloadStudio I click Add new Job and paste the link.
Though the link ends with rar, I receive the following window:
http://img153.imageshack.us/img153/6793/35729702.png

DownloadStudio downloads a 37Kbyte file (Bad Hash). The downloaded file should be 100MB.

Sorry for not replying, I didn't see your post. I downloaded and watched the video you posted and it looks like DownloadStudio is not finding your login cookie for FileSonic, when I typed the url from the video into DownloadStudio I got http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5096/5490228177_61bd18fe6d_z.jpg(http://www.flickr.com/photos/43977020@N07/5490228177/). Did you check the box 'Remember me' when you logged in to FileSonic in Firefox? If you didn't check the box then DownloadStudio cannot find your cookie.

thanks for your reply.

Yes, I've checked the remember me box.
I thought it may be something with the browser and tested it in internet explorer and then Maxthon3.
In all cases I got the same result. A 37KB bad Hash file is downloaded.

any other advice is much appreciated.

Do you have 'Tools->Options->Connection->HTTP->Use Cookies to assist downloading files from web servers' checked in DownloadStudio? If you look at the job conversation from the download can you see an entry 'Cookie: ' and does it contain 'PHPSESSID='?

vip_shadow
03-03-2011, 07:55 PM
yes, the checkbox you mentioned is already checked. Actually I'm downloading from Hotfile and Rapidshare without any problem.

I can see Cookie under Job conversation. Here's an image :
http://img19.imageshack.us/img19/4920/126pb.png

the cookie line reads as following:
> 2011/03/03 18:49:28 Cookie: __utma=26991146.1923830067.1296519366.1296519366.1 296519366.1;__utmz=26991146.1296519366.1.1.utmcsr= ********|utmccn=(referral)|utmcmd=referral|utmcct=/viewtopic.php

thank you for your time

It looks like your cookie is missing PHPSESSID=, this is required to download from FileSonic. Go to Firefox and open 'Options' then go to the 'Privacy' tab and click the link 'remove individual cookies', you will be able to search for 'FileSonic' cookies http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5257/5495464676_4cfcf8f39e_z.jpg. The 'Expires:' date for PHPSESSID should not read 'when I close my browser' it should be a date.

vip_shadow
03-05-2011, 09:30 AM
The 'Expires:' date for PHPSESSID is not 'When I close my browser'.
It's 2011/03/18 8:31:00

May I ask where you live?
I'm in Japan (though I'm not a Japanese ;) )
and when I click a link to download a file, http://www.filesonic.com/******** changes to http://www.filesonic.jp/******
even if I type filesonic.com in firefox/internet explorer addressbar, I'm redirected to filesonic.jp

you posted a link to a movie in your previous post which the links reads as filesonic.com/******
when I clicked this link, the download link changed to filsonic.jp/**** and the download started.

if you refer to my screen captures above, you'll see that most of them are .jp and not .com
but all of your screen captures shows the links as .com

Now this is my guess.
filesonic has several server worldwide. No matter on which server a file is uploaded, there's a program which translate the address.
Now this is where DownloadStudio's trapped. Download studio tries to download the actual address that is typed or pasted in download job.
Where it should be translated to it's actual address.
Because of your location, the address (****.com/****) happens to be used for downloading and you have no problem.
But for those who have to download via servers around the world (.jp - .ko - .ru ......), downloadstudio fails to grab the link.
I hope you get my point.

But JDownloader is not a cookie dependent download manager. It actually asks me for my login info to download a file (Settings-Host-Premium).
I believe JDownloader uses these info to connect to filesonic and receive the correct location of the files to be downloaded.
Even when I'm not logged in to my account to filesonic, and filesonic's cookie is deleted, I can download from filesonic with JDownloaded.

I'll be waiting for a day that downloadstudio finds a solution for downloading files from shared server without needing a cookie.

I live in Australia.
I setup a Japanese proxy server and tested the filesonic downloads and if I am logged into filesonic.jp in my browser and I try and add a url for www.filesonic.com it does not resolve correctly. If I change the download url to use filesonic.jp then the download works, http://filesonic.jp/file/r000216945/96473901/Top.Gear.S05E04---2004.11.14.part4.rar. Can you try this with your downloads?
It looks like we could do the login using http://www.filesonic.com/user/login (this is what JDownloader does), we may consider this for DownloadStudio 7.0.

I came out with some interesting news.

I uploaded a file to filesonic and used DownloadStudio to download it myself.
DownloadStudio was able to download this file. But it failed to download other links (Your movie or other links from my friends)

I used an Australian proxy server and tested DownloadStudio once again.
With this proxy, DownloadStudio downloaded your movie, but failed to download my own file.

it shows that at least a part of my assumption in my previous post maybe right. ;)

I currently have a cookie for filesonic.jp in my browser and if I add http://filesonic.jp/file/r000216945/96473901/Top.Gear.S05E04---2004.11.14.part4.rar to DownloadStudio it is resolved correctly and downloads, but if I add http://www.filesonic.com/file/r000216945/96473901/Top.Gear.S05E04---2004.11.14.part4.rar it is resolved as text/html and will not download the file correctly. As long as the domain of the file link matches the domain of the cookie the file will be downloaded, if you login to filesonic.jp in your web browser then you need to change your links to use filesonic.jp, if you login to www.filesonic.com you need to use links with www.filesonic.com

vip_shadow

I can't agree with you.
When I used the proxy and clicked a filesonic link, I wasn't redirected to login page. Firefox and DownloadStudio used the existing .jp cookie to download the file. And the download was successful. I even searched the cookies, there wasn't(and isn't) any .com cookie with a valid PHPSESSID.

It doesn't seem the cookie itself concerns. With a .jp cookie I was able to download a .com link with the proxy.

Peter

Did you configure the proxy using Firefox's Options->Advanced->Network->Settings...? When I configured a proxy using this method I logged in to filesonic.jp and then I was able to download files with urls containing filesonic.jp or www.filesonic.com using the web browser, but once I removed the proxy I could no longer download because the urls were being redirected to www.filesonic.com.
I also configured a japanese proxy for DownloadStudio and I was able to download filesonic.jp urls but not www.filesonic.com urls.

After some testing it appears that DownloadStudio is finding the redirect url filesonic.jp and is getting the correct cookie, but the request is being redirected back to www.filesonic.com again.

I simply searched Google for a free proxy in Australia and then entered the IP and the port into Firefox options (Advance-Network-Connections-settings), then tried to download the links.

I didn't go to filesonic.com nor filesonic.jp to login into my account.

Peter
03-07-2011, 01:32 PM
It would depend upon whether that proxy was anonymous or not, when you clicked on a www.filesonic.com download url the filesonic server detected your IP address and determined that you were in Japan so it redirected you to filesonic.jp and then the browser found the cookie for filesonic.jp and downloaded the file. You can use DownloadStudio URL Sniffer to view the redirect, have sniffer running when you click a www.filesonic.com download link and if you look for the www.filesonic.com download url you should see a 302 moved operation in the raw packet data.

I'll be waiting for your version 7.

Is it really impossible to forget about the cookies and make downloadStudio download files using login info? (just like JDownloader)

At present, I'm using JDownloader for downloading files from Rapidshare-Hotfile and fileSonic without loging into my accounts.

It's just I love DownloadStudio more.
and I prefer to use it as my default downloader.

DownloadStudio uses cookies to login to sites for downloading because it is easier to support many different sites without having to implement each site's own specific login api, supporting all of these login api's creates problems because if they are modified by the site's administrator to use even a slightly different format then DownloadStudio is broken and cannot download from the site. Using cookies we are able to download more reliably.

You should be able to Download from rapidshare, hotfile and filesonic just by logging in to the site in your browser and saving the cookie using the 'remember me' checkbox with each login and then after that the cookie will be valid for every download you add to DownloadStudio as long as the domain matches the cookie's domain. filesonic.jp and www.filesonic.com links are a problem because the domain's are different and we are not recognizing that this is the same site, we will need to investigate to see if there is a better solution for this.

The latest update, 6.0.9, fixes the issue of FileSonic downloads occasionally being corrupted.

No it doesnt.

Peter
05-10-2011, 08:14 AM
We have made a minor fix since the release of 6.0.9, can you please try downloading http://www.conceiva.com/temp/downloadstudio/DownloadStudio20110502.zip and extract the two contained files, DownloadStudio.exe and wwwcore.dll, to the folder where you installed DownloadStudio. This should fix the corrupt files problem, please let us know if it does not.

Unfortunately, upgrade did not work. Still getting the same result:

The problem shown in your screenshot is related to the login cookie before the download has even begun, the fix we made was to try and prevent corrupt files once the download was in progress. You need to make sure you have "Use cookies to assist downloading files from web servers" enabled.

Ayax

If I go to a page http://www.filestube.com/458dFfqlty461djzkMLOaG/TopGear-Full-Throttle.html and select a filesonic url and use 'FlashGot Selection' to download wit DownloadStudio then the correct login cookie for filesonic is passed to DownloadStudio.
Can you please provide the url of a page where you click the link and the download does not work so that we can test it?

Ayax

Lets try e.g., this one.
When I try to download it with Flashgot I got the file ending with html.

Update: A new version of DownloadStudio (v6.0.11) has just been released and it includes improved support for Filesonic. You can get the latest update using the "Check For Updates" menu item located under the Help menu in DownloadStudio, or just download the installer from http://www.conceiva.com/downloads and it will upgrade your existing version.
