MakeMKV problems

I've been having a few issues that looked to be Mezzmo problems, but now not so sure.
Basically when 2.1.11 came out I ripped a load of my Seinfeld DVD's to HD using Makemkv, there was one particular episode that Mezzmo seemed not to like. Although it could see the file it said file not found when I tried to run it. I then updated to 2.1.13 and could see the file, but all the files now had no sound. Adric has been very helpful trying sugestions etc. Anyway, in the mean time my HD crashed and I lost all the rips. 2.1.20 came ut, so I ripped them again and now the sound is low and distorted. All along I've presumed this is a Mezzmo issue, but decided to roll back to 2.1.11 as this worked the best, only to still have the issue around distorted sound.

So has anyone else encountered problems, as it doesn't look like a Mezzmo issue, or just a Mezzmo issue? Or what other software is best for ripping DVD's to HD?

I've used MakeMKV once or twice without issue, but I converted them to VOB with MKV2VOB before playing them. If you can't get that one to work you could try that route, but I assume you'd probably prefer consistency.

What device are you sending them to? Have you made any firmware updates to it?

Thanks for the reply, they are going to a Sony KDL403. As I said they all worked before 2.1.11 and thats when I started getting problems (albeit 2.1.11 only won file had issues). I believe the TV automatically updates firmware so presume it's the latest but would have to double check that. The fact that it doesn't work now even with 2.1.11 does seem to say something with MakeMKV has changed as they seem to time limit the software so you have to use the latest beta release.

So you converted to MKV and then converted to VOB? I might give that a try, all I want is to watch DVD's from the hard disk, if that method works then I'll happily use it.

Basically, if I have an MKV file that I know I'm going to keep, I automatically feed it into MKV2VOB to convert it to VOB format. For whatever reason, the VOB container has always been better suited compatibility-wise for my PS3 and doesn't seem to need transcoding by Mezzmo. The MKVs you're developing would (I believe) have to be transcoded for playback, so, assuming you're essentially archiving these episodes, you may be better off running them through MKV2VOB. The filesize ends up being a bit larger, though, due to VOB requiring a larger file overhead. You can also load them all up in a queue for processing.

However, and as I've stated in a number of other threads, I don't want to step on Conceiva's toes in case they have a better fix for your issue, but this may be an option.

you can run dvd vob/ifo files thru vStrip to save each ep as a .vob (rip it to hdd first (use dvdfab) no re-encoding neccesary and its fast
