Hi lads, been using your software for a few months now and have started to run into some issues with larger mkv files stuttering. Not an issue with cpu/disk/network and have tried lowering the playback settings without any luck. I can run high playback settings on all movies under 8gb in size without issues.

The second issue is using the menu buttons, with the xbox, the fastforward and rewind options are not available. Is there anything I can do to to the files specifically to fix that or is it a software/device limitation?

FFD info on the file I am having an issue with:

The final question is related to subtitles, I have non-hardcoded subs which work fine when selected through players like VLC, is there any way to get non-hardcoded subs to transcode to a xbox?

thanks

Anyone having similar issues or can offer any possible fixes?

When the stuttering starts to take place, what does Windows Task Manager report? Is your computer running at high CPU or high memory? It may be that the transcoding is not able to process quick enough to deliver the data to the Xbox for smooth streaming - i.e. the Xbox is getting starved of video/audio data and is always waiting for some more, hence the stuttering.

One thing to try - after the video has fully played once, then it will be fully transcoded and will not need to be transcoded again. If you play it the next time, the transcoded file will be streamed directly to your Xbox. Does it stutter in this case?

When a file is transcoding on-the-fly, FF/REW is not possible since you may be trying to FF to a part of the video that has not yet been transcoded. Once the video has been fully transcoded, then the next time you play it, you should be able to FF/REW.

Mezzmo can stream external subtitle files (.SRT/.SUB) to DLNA devices, but unfortunately the Xbox does not support playing external subtitle files. We are midway in development of our new subtitle engine and it will support transcoding & burning subtitles into videos so that devices that do not support external subtitles like the Xbox can play videos with subtitles. We do not have a firm release date as yet. It will be a free upgrade for all registered users.

The stuttering doesn't seem to be related to hardware bottle necks. Will run wireshark to see what kind of network throughput I am getting.

Is there a way to transcode files or even whole folders prior to playing them?

The next major version of Mezzmo will have a pre-transcode feature so that you can transcode all your files for your device before playing them. It will be a bit like Maintain Library. This will greatly assist users with lower powered computers who cannot perform on-the-fly transcoding without stuttering or random stopping and also allow for FF/REW which is not possible for on-the-fly transcoded files. We are midway in development and don't yet have a firm release date. It will be a free upgrade to all registered users.
