View Full Version : Is there a WD TV Live Hub 1TB Profile?

I have recently noticed that certain files of the 720p and 1080p quality with 6 audio channels play sluggish with my WD TV Live Hub 1TB (video will stutter with no sound). I have no problem with any of my 720p and 1080p files with 2 audio channels. The profile being used is the WD TV Live (most similar profile since there is not a choice for the WD TV Live Hub 1TB). When I switch to the profile DVico TVix 6500, DVico TVix 6600, or the Sony Playstation 3 these files play fine but with sound levels dramatically lowered.

Just wondering if there is a profile for the WD TV Live Hub 1TB which addresses this issue. Other notes: I have used Digital as well as PCM audio outputs with no improvements.

Can you please post FFmpeg information (in Mezzmo right-click on the file and use the "Get FFmpeg Information" command) on one of those files? The WD TV Live profile should work, as it looks like the format support is same between the two device (correct me if I'm wrong, please).

On the product website the format support appears the same but the hardware spec's are different. The following is the information you have requested (I have placed info on two separate files for comparisons one at 720 and one at 1080):

Thank you for looking into this.

I forgot to mention that the stutter(ing) without audio begins a few minutes into each movie.

Thanks for the FFmpeg info. The problem is that the current device profile for WD TV limits AAC to 2 channels (so those files are transcoded). I'm not sure if the WD TV Live supports only stereo, but I'll test. Can you please send a message to support (at) conceiva (dot) com and I can send you a device profile to try 5.1 AAC sound.

I will be sending the message out shortly. I must admit that this is by far the best support I have had on any purchased product. THUMBS UP!

The Live Hub is basically the same hardware as the Live Plus (exact same processor from Sigma - MP8654), except they added an internal HDD, and use a newer revision of the SDK used to build the OSD. So using the WDTV Live profile will work.

The Live family supports DTS and AC3 in pass-through (i.e. you need a receiver that can decode these). AAC 5.1 however is not supported :( I had discussed with Dennis a few months ago, and had them add an entry in the Live profile that would transcode AAC 5.1 into AC3 5.1, allowing it to play in surround if you have a receiver to handle it.

Yes, but it appears that the Live Plus does support AAC 5.1, or at least that's my understanding from the above.

Live Plus won't play all five channels if AAC 5.1. It uses the same firmware code as the Live, except for the Netflix playback that's added to it (they both use the same 1.04 code base from Sigma), so it will probably downscale it to 2.0 output. :(

I'd be surprised if they did added that to the Live Hub, but that's not impossible since it's indeed based on a newer codebase. My experience with their code (I'm involved in the development of the WDLXTV firmware replacement for Live/Live Plus) has been limited to Live and Live Plus only.

We don't have a Live Plus to test here, but can someone who has one please confirm whether it plays AAC 5.1? If it does, then we need a separate device profile for it. Thanks!
