I am having a bad stuttering problem trying to play 1080p MKV on my direct TV HD21 reciever. Everything else so far has worked great but I can't seem to get 1080p to work right. It will start and stutter then exit out. I looked and the network is fine. Both my PC and my reciever are on gigabit ethernet connections. If anyone has a suggestion please let me know.

Thanks

I think it's a problem with 1080p streams. Anytime I try to stream 1080p to my HR24 or H24, it literally crashes the boxes to where I have to do a hard reset (unplug and plug it back in). I've talked to a couple of the guys at support, but haven't had a chance to get logs and stuff to them.

As smitbret mentions, you may be reaching a limitation on the Directv receiver. It just may not have the CPU/memory/firmware to play 1080p video nicely. We do not have a Directv receiver here at the office, so we cannot test this for you.

After it starts to stutter and then exits out, wait for a few minutes (don't choose to play anything else - just wait). Then, try to play the same file again. Does it play further this time?

Yes it still crashes. Is there any setting to have it convert to 720p instead of trying to play at 1080? I just don't want to have to convert all these over if I don't have to.

thanks

Directv does not support a high enough video bit rate to play 1080P or 720P...It will only play up to DVD 480p quality
purchase a different rendering device for HD streaming or transcode .ts files back to 480P...sorry for the bad news...

Just to let you know it does play 720p fine. I do have mkv's in 720p format and it plays great.

Can you please send a message to support (at) conceiva (dot) com and I'll send you an updated device profile to try.

As Neil pointed out, this may not be the case. My HR24s & H24s have always played back 720p content just fine. It seems they may have "adjusted" a few things with their latest firmware update, as well. 1080p content used to crash my boxes (literally blank, gray screen & no sound) to where I had to shut off power and reboot. Since the update, 1080p content is now playing on my boxes. If you have an SD receiver, then naturally, you'll be limited to that, of course. Your statement doesn't even make sense since DirecTV broadcasts 720p/1080i and even 1080p VOD.
