It appears that when you update music properties of a song on Mezzmo that it does not update the file tag. Is this true? I think it should as presently it appears I have to update the tag info in two places, on Mezzmo and the file itself or via MS Media Player. I have seen instances where if you don't update on the file or by MSMP, the Mezzmo attributes will change, likewise I have seen it where if it is updated in MSMP that Mezzmo doesn't see those updates if the music file has already been established within Mezzmo. I would think that when one updates a file in Mezzmo it should update the tag. It appears that when updating properties in Mezzmo, that it does not act as a tag editor. Adds a lot of undue work as I have seen when trying to ensure all of my music has proper years of release on each music file. I would like to see it where Mezzmo is my one point of dat entry/database update on my system.

Yes, Mezzmo does not write tags into your files. There are plans to add this functionality in a future version.

If you update the tags using an external program, then just run maintenance and Mezzmo should pick them up (you may need to select "update all information" for this to work, otherwise if a tag was already present in Mezzmo, then it won't be changed - only new ones will be added in).

OK...it would definitely be a plus to update the tag! It can be difficult to maintain multiple databases!

The problem with updating existing tags (in Mezzmo's database) is that we don't know which information should be trusted - the one coming from the file or the one already in the database, since you could've updated the database information manually and in that case it should be considered the correct one. With empty tags it's easy - just fill them in, but with those already filled in, it's a bit tricky.

Most products I have worked with of this nature simply include what is called a "tag editor" so one could assume that you are altering the tag......

A good tag editor needs to support lots of tag formats in various types of files (and different versions of those tags as well), so it's quite a big task to write one properly. We're considering doing this in a future version, but for the time being we only store that information in the database.

So my testing supports fully what you say. I found that if a tag field was blank it gets updated, but if a tag is present then it ignores it seems and never makes changes within the file tag. If I update a tag via MS Media Player, the info in Mezzmo will not update, but if the tag were blank and I update it in MSMP it seems to update in Mezzmo. I wish I had made sure every tag was in order in MSMP PRIOR to creating Mezzmo database as then at one point everything would have been accurate in both places. I still hope at some point you include a true tag editor which would propogate to the source file. There are many good ones out there, even in free world. Just embedd one of those and I would be a happy camper!
