View Full Version : LG BD670 bluray player seen as generic

I am enamored with Mezzmo. I plan to do a video in the next few days. It works with my older DLink DSM320. It flies with my WD Live Plus.

But I just got an LG BD670 blu ray player and it fits, coughs, and sputters. I suspect it is because it is seen as a "generic device". At least I hope that is the problem, given the other two devices work so well.

Any reason Mezzmo doesn't get it (i.e. recognize the device)? I'm considering going through the menus and trying to tell Mezzmo what it is seeing, but it seems like it should do so right away.

Any thoughts?

It may not have auto-detected it because the device may have a user-agent different to what the device profile specifies. Please go to Media Devices dialog and select "LG BluRay" as your device profile and see if that works.

If it doesn't, please turn on logging (see this thread: http://forum.conceiva.com/showthread.php/419-FAQ-How-to-turn-on-diagnostic-logging), then try reconnecting to the device again and try to play something. Once that fails (or stutters), stop the server, zip up the logs and send them to support (at) conceiva (dot) com and we'll investigate.

Strangely enough, when I set Media Devices to LG Bluray, the LG BD670 won't play media at all - it sees the folders, but when one is selected, it just goes into an "infinite turning circle" - and in fact freezes the unit sometimes.

Generic at least "works", but again with lots of stuttering. Although it is physically closer to the n-router than the WD Live (which works great), I will rig up a tv and the unit so I can physically plug the LG BD670 into the router to determine if the issue is a wireless one (if it is, the LG BD670 will be returned, because the WD Live is brillian with Mezzmo).

I'll get back to you with logs once I determine more, but overall I'm concerned why it is not recognized as anything, and why the stutters.

Seeker I am using the LG BD670 also. After a couple months of tweaking settings, changing file formats, and pulling my hair out. I figured out the best solution for this player and Mezzmo. The LD BD670 will play MKV files natively, but they must be H264, with AC passthrough. Which means that Mezzmo will not have to transcode the files at all to play it on the LG BD670. You can actually play them straight from your pc without Mezzmo, by using windows shares ( CIFS ). However I am testing Mezzmo to play my movies on my PS3 also and for the metadata features. If you have any questions let me know.

Are you using wired or wireless? I wired in the LG BD670 and it played "fairly well" - but I still saw a stutter or two. Wireless RIGHT NEXT TO THE ROUTER was not good - the wireless in this device just is not acceptable.

I am planning on returning the LG. I don't have to have a blu ray, though I'd like it. Thinking of a second WD Live.

I am still puzzled why it is seen as a Generic device and still wonder why that is and if something different would improve things, but don't know if my time is worth the cost versus just getting something I know works.

To find out why it's detected as generic, I'll need those logs.

I would assume that wireless on it is G, not N, right? G will work if you have low-res, SD contents, but it won't work for anything 720p and above.

Dennis - no it's definitely N - I even reset the router to N only to be sure. (vs b/g/n).

Again - the WD Live is Brilliant!!!! And yay Mezzmo - I WANT to pay for this product, so I won't be making the video. And so is the DLink DSM320.

I have 4 access areas. And it is only this LG that is giving me problems.

YAY Mezzmo.

I want you guys to really succeed, and I will work with you to do so. I recommend media stuff to others, and tversity is now off my reco list.

(And maybe so is this LG....)

I can send you logs, but I think I'm just going to send this unit back. Whispering - and I dunno if I wanna send you my complete library - those log files are VERY complete... (he says looking at them)

I'd be happy to just know the user-agent (one set of complete http headers will do).

Thanks for the positive feedback on Mezzmo!

Maybe there's something strange about the wireless settings on the BD? How is the signal strength on it? Also, on your PC, what's the network throughput like on the wireless card when you're trying to stream something?

rather than send the 40mb file, just let me know where I can do a search on a string and I'll send you tons of stuff. (i.e. user-agent)

I use a Belkin N750 DB router - works great. Good signal strength - have used both the 2.4ghz and 5ghz signal to test. The media server is hardwired into the 1gb router port. When I hardwire the LG unit in - ok, yes it seems to work ok (I probably LOOK for glitches). But wireless, even right next to the router, not so much - stutters. I'm blaming the unit, certainly not Mezzmo.

Again the DLink DSM320 (running into a Linksys G Router - dang that the DSM320 only supports WEP) - even with G works great! (I turned the G off to test the LG, but the DSM320 with Linksys needs the G)... and the WD Live with N (at 150, not 300) works fantastic.

So why won't this LG (recognized as generic) work right - it even seems to support both 2.4 and 5.0 N? (ok, now I'm ranting... breathe, breathe...)

If you can search for "GET /desc" and paste me the whole header, that'd be a great starting point, thanks!

We have an LG BD390 here, but it's probably quite different in hardware to the 670, so I can test wireless on it, but not sure if it'll help in any way :)

I appreciate your help.

Melbourne is a good spot to visit, just remember that our seasons are reversed here when compared to the Northern hemispere ;)

I think I'm giving up on the LG and sending it back, but I hope this helps.

Yes, thank you, it helps - the user-agent is different, thus we don't detect it properly. I'll add this new user-agent to our device profile for the next Mezzmo update.

Remember however, that when I chose LG BluRay for this device, that it would never play anything. That is scary to me. The generic worked better than the LG BluRay profile.

Paul
06-10-2011, 11:38 AM
Yes, we may need to create a different device profile for it and we'll look into that, although look at the specs: http://www.lg.com/us/products/documents/Lg%20Video%20BD670%20Spec%20Sheet.pdf it appears very much like the profile we already have. Perhaps there was something wrong with your particular unit?

Could be - that's the problem with a sample size of one. I am dis-satisfied enough that I am planning to send it back. It's one of those "close but no cigar" situations.

Will probably move on and get another WD Live device, and forget the blu ray (I only own two blu ray discs, and we're leaving the physical arena - that's part of what mezzmo is about).

I was having very similar issues with my LGBD670. Thought it might be something on my end but when I realized the player would have a hard time playing brand new DVDs, I returned the unit. Have a replacement coming in within 2 weeks. Will use the profile you sent over to me Dennis and will post if the behavior changes.

thought I would provide an update.....Ok, got my new BD670 today. DVD playback no longer an issue. Mezzmo now recognizes my device properly but streaming still does not work. I have a Belkin N+ Router and get high packet loss with the LG for some reason. I am not seeing this behavior with any of my other WiFi devices including a Samsung B series tv which streams from Mezzmo pretty well. All firmware is up to date so I am thinking there must be an incompatibility between the LG and the Belkin N+ Router but have not found anything documented yet.

Have you tried plugging it in with a cable (if it's possible) to see if that works?

Hi Dennis,

I have not wired it up since I do not plan on using it in that capacity but did try dif. channels and frequencies without much variation. I have a feeling that it is an incompatibility issue between the LG player and the router since this is the 2nd 670 with the same problem.

Perhaps if you could send some logs in, we'll be able to spot if there's anything peculiar going on.

I'd check things like UPnP settings and QoS on the router to start with (turn them off).
