View Full Version : Xbox 360 problems..

Hi there,

I'm very impressed with Mezzmo so far - I can stream HD content and music directly to my Samsung C580 TV with no problems at all.

However, I am having a couple of issues with streaming to my Xbox 360. HD Video 'stutters' every 10 minutes or so. I am guessing this is being caused by the large overheads caused by FFMPEG transcoding .MKV/.MP4 to .WMV. I'm going to attempt to remedy this by reducing the transcoder quality for the Xbox 360 Profile. Is there any way to transcode to Xvid .avi rather than .WMV, or is this just as bad?

My main problem however is with streaming Music from Mezzmo to my Xbox 360. Prior to using Mezzmo, I could stream my Music from Windows Media Player to the Xbox 360 with no problems - I would just navigate to Music (and then the Windows Media Player Library) on the Xbox 360, then find the Artist/Album I wanted to play and all the music files would be listed.

Under Mezzmo, when I navigate to Music (and then select the Mezzmo Library) on the Xbox 360 and then choose Artist I am able to see all the artists listed, but then when I select one all that I can see is:

- iTunes Playlist
- Folder

Selecting either of these does nothing. I also get the same issue if I try to browse via Album or Folder.

I can play all the Music on Mezzmo via my Samsung C580 TV, however this means that I have to leave the screen on, which is something I do not like doing with a static display on the screen. I would much rather be able to play the music via my Xbox 360 as it is hooked up to my Hi-Fi and one I have selected some music I can then turn the TV off to save on electricity and wear & tear on the screen.

Any help/suggestions would be very much appreciated.

We'll need to check if XBox navigation became broken for some reason - if it has, we'll fix it up.

Regarding transcoding - converting to AVI will not help much, unfortunately, since MPEG4 encoding is not much faster than WMV.

Thanks for the quick response Dennis! It would be very interesting to see if there is an issue with Xbox Navigation. Navigation works properly via the 'Video' section of the Xbox, but it doesn't work via the 'Music' section. I haven't tried the 'Photos' section yet - I will give that a try and let you know how I get on.

I had a feeling that would be the case with AVI transcoding. It doesn't matter much to me though as my Samsung C580 TV works perfectly for HD streaming anyway.
Do you know if/when you will be able to add in fast forward / rewind features for Mezzmo when streaming to the Samsung C580?

Music navigation on the XBox is different to Video and Photos and we're checking it right now. If anything needs fixing, it'll be done for the next update.

Samsung devices do not allow FF/REW, but should allow skipping using the left/right buttons. This doesn't work on all formats either, unfortunately, but this is because of Samsung's firmware limitations, not Mezzmo's.

I too am having problems with navigation on the xbox 360. I navigate to artist but am unable to see the albums listed. I can list all the songs for an artist but nothing else. There have been some recent patches but none of them seem to have resolved the issue. Have you any news on this please?
Many thanks

Yes, it should be fixed for the next release - sorry for inconvenience.

Hi Denis,

I have also encountered problems sharing music to my XBOX 360. When I go to Music Player on the XBOX 360 and move down to Artists, the waiting swirl icon appears on the right for a few second before locking requiring a hard switch off and on to unlock. Sometime if I move quickly past Artist and come back a bit later it does work and not freeze, but there is no way to guarantee this will happen which is frustrating. Do you know of this problem? Is there a way to get around it/resolve?

Also, is it possible to view the folder structure on the XBOX 360 Music Player from the host PC instead of Albums, Artists, Saved Playlists, Songs and Genres?

Hi Dave,

The XBox360 reformats your playlists when browsing Music, so no, it's not possible to see your folder structure when browsing Music. What we aim to do is to place your library structure under the Playlists folder in Music.

Regarding hanging on Artist - I think it's the same issue as above. It probably just tries to read in too many things and causes this hanging. Do you have many music files?
