This is when i'm trying to steam to my ps3
I use the sony playstation 3 profile it plays some mkv files but not others. I then switch it to sony playstation 3 compatible profile and the others that didn't work before work and the others that worked before don't.

also

When steaming to my WD-Live everything plays fine except avi file. what happens is it plays but the picture keeps pausing but the sound plays as per normal.

Please help...

MKV files are not supported by the PS3, so they'll be transcoded using either profile. The destination transcoding format is different between the two profiles, so that may be causing either transcoding issues or something else.

Can you please turn logging (see this thread: http://forum.conceiva.com/showthread.php/419-FAQ-How-to-turn-on-diagnostic-logging) and send logs of using both device profiles with files that are failing to play to support (at) conceiva (dot) com? We'll take a look to see whether there's something in the transcoding or elsewhere and work out a solution.

Do all AVI files fail on your WD TV Live or just a few? Can you please post FFmpeg information on one such file that fails (in Mezzmo right-click on the file and use the "Get FFmpeg Information" command).

Hi Dennis,

Apologies for posting in two places on the forum. Using the WD-live, the video pauses while the sound still plays. While some play perfectly. I copied a couple that are failing and one that plays fine.
Hope this helps.

Hi,

Thanks for the info. It looks like the only difference is the encoder's version and since we deliver these files natively to the WD TV, I'd say that the encoding could be broken in that. If you try copying that AVI that doesn't play to a USB and try to play it directly using the WD TV, does it play?

Hi,

no the picture still skips while the audio is fine. how can I fix this?

Paul
07-18-2011, 02:22 PM
I can only really suggest re-transcoding those files manually using some software.

To transcode them using Mezzmo you could modify the WD TV device profile to make all AVI files transcode, for example (of course that'll put a lot of pressure on your CPU). Let me know if you'd like to try that.

Another option is to get them from a different source, if you downloaded them from somewhere, possibly with another encoding.

It's just the way these files are encoded, which makes them break the decoder on the WD TV.

ok,

Can we try transcoding using mezzmo? whats the minimum cpu for this? i have a core 2 duo 3.0 ghz

Paul

Those files should be handled by your CPU, since they're below 720p.

To do that:

1) locate WDTVLive.prf on your system (it'll be in a folder as per this thread: http://forum.conceiva.com/showthread.php/467-FAQ-Where-are-device-profiles-located)
2) remove read-only protection from it
3) open it using Notepad
4) find this container:

<avcontainer id="avi" name="avi" encode="0" mimetype="video/avi">
<video>
<format id="mpeg4" encode="0" codec="mpeg4">
</format>
</video>
<video>
<format id="msmpeg4" encode="0" >
</format>
</video>
<audio>
<format id="mp3" encode="0" codec="mp3">
</format>
</audio>
<audio>
<format id="ac3" encode="0" >
</format>
</audio>
</avcontainer>

5) place comments ("<!-- and -->") around it or delete it completely
6) save the file and restart the server

This time when you go to those files (or actually any AVI files), they should all be transcoded.

Please let me know how that goes.

hmm new issue lol it stops playing after about 40secs

Paul
07-18-2011, 02:47 PM
Probably transcoding speed is not quick enough - if you play it again, does it play further?

If you like, please turn on logging (see this thread: http://forum.conceiva.com/showthread.php/419-FAQ-How-to-turn-on-diagnostic-logging) then try again and once it stops, stop the server and send the logs to support (at) conceiva (dot) com and I'll take a look.

Trent21

nah it quits back to the menu

Ok, then I need to see the logs to continue investigating... It would also be great if I could have one of those files here as well ;)

Trent21

ok i'll send it through soon. Have you had alook at those other playing issues i sent through to the support email?

I don't think we received a support e-mail from you... If you attached logs, were they larger than 10 MBs? If they were, it's likely that the e-mail bounced back.

Trent21
07-18-2011, 03:03 PM
hasn't bounced back....i sent it to support@conceiva.com is that right?

Paul

Yes, that's the correct e-mail address. How big was the attachment?

Trent21
07-18-2011, 03:14 PM
the biggest one is 4mb, 30kb , 64kb , 5kb , 5kb

Paul
07-18-2011, 03:19 PM
Strange, should be here then. Can you please PM me your e-mail address, so that I could try and find it here?

Trent21
07-18-2011, 03:26 PM
ok done did you get it?

Paul
07-18-2011, 03:29 PM
ok done did you get it?
Yes, just give me a second :)

I've checked here and we didn't get anything from you (or not yet, at least).

Did you zip up the logs or sent them as-is? If you didn't zip them up, please do that and re-send. It could be that your ISP is blocking larger attachments from getting out.

Trent21
07-18-2011, 03:37 PM
ok i sent them

Paul

Nothing here yet. Can you please send a message with just some text, but without attachments to make sure your e-mails are getting to us?

Nope, still not here. Ok, let's try it another way - go to support form: http://www.conceiva.com/support/default.asp and submit a ticket. I'll reply to it and maybe this will show us the problem with e-mails from you...

Trent21
07-18-2011, 04:21 PM

Paul
07-18-2011, 04:23 PM

Ok, we received that and your first message (unzipped) just arrived as well, so possibly it was delayed somewhere enroute... I'll try to go through this today, but if I don't, I'll get back to you tomorrow.

Trent21
07-18-2011, 04:29 PM
ok thanks mate i've been a great help. and by the way those log you just got didn't include the pokemon episode that was screwing up that should arrive later. also did you still want the episode? or wait and see?

Paul
07-18-2011, 04:31 PM
Once I go through the logs, I'll see if we need any files here - I'll get back to you via e-mail regarding those. Thanks!

Hi,

Did you send new logs in? It'll be easier if you could please reply to the e-mail I sent with a test device profile with the logs, as that will allow me to see what fails exactly.
