View Full Version : dvr-ms files and Samsung LED TV shows narrow videos

Hi,

I am trying out Mezzmo (I have tried several servers and Mezzmo is the best so far). With my Samsung UE40D8000 TV, dvr-ms files actually play!
Unfortunately the picture is about 30 to 50% narrower than it should be - even narrower I think than 4:3. Can it be corrected to widen it?
Info: Files recored from UK terrestrial TV - usually show at 16:9.
The SamsungC profile was selected.
Server is 32 bit Win Vista (hope to upgade to Win7 soon).
The ffmpeg info is below. The info at the bottom states 4:3 - probably the previous program is 4:3, then the file switches at the end of that programme?

Interestingly, when I play this on a Samsung Blu-ray using its own DLNA client (the cheapest one which does 3D) - it uses the Samsung BDP-3D profile, and does play at the right width - BUT only plays about 30s to 1 minute before blanking and going to the next video. I switched the TV's profile from C to BDP-3D, but that had no affect on the aspect ratio. Does this mean the TV is the problem, and if so can the Blu-Ray premature end be fixed instead?

I also noticed that the playback on TV and the Blu-Ray was not as smooth as the original - is this a frame rate issue which is native to DLNA or dvr-ms?

Hope you can help.
Best regards
Steve

To answer part of my question, I have been fiddling with the TV's settings. When in Media mode, there are 3 picture modes. Putting the TV into Mode 2 appears to resolve the picture width issue. The slight jerkiness and issues with the BDP remain though.

I'm glad that you've sorted the width issue.

The frame rate on that file is a bit strange, so perhaps that's causing the jerkiness. Do you have a way to change recording settings to adjust the frame rate to something else?

The premature end on the BDP may be because transcoding is too slow (depending on your CPU). Can you please select the BDP profile, then turn on logging (see this thread: http://forum.conceiva.com/showthread.php/419-FAQ-How-to-turn-on-diagnostic-logging) then try playing it again and once it stops, stop the server and send the logs to support (at) conceiva (dot) com and we'll see if that's the case or something else is wrong.

Sort of off topic, but I thought I'd share that I'm trying to use MCEBuddy to convert WTV/DVR-MS to a more usable and much smaller format - eg MP4 or AVI etc.

If you are interested in reducing the files from your TV recorder you might like to take a look at it.

You can also get it to change frame size and aspect ratios.
