View Full Version : Any plans for WMA Lossless Support?

I noticed in an earlier thread that it appears WMA lossless is not supported (and passed through without transcoding to the device). Any plans to support it or is there an option to force transcoding it?

My receiver (Onkyo TX-NR905, with v1.08 firmware) works great with any files that are MP3, but if I attempt to select any WMA song, it flashes “CANNOT PLAY” on the receiver display, and on the TV monitor, it moves to the next song, and the process repeats. I know the receiver does not support lossless WMA, and I suspect that's what is being sent.

Also in Mezzmo’s folder listing, the “File Type” folder only has “wma” as a sub-folder, but no “mp3” as I’d expect. When “File Type” directory is selected, you do see all the MP3 and WMA songs. This is really minor, but I'd at least be able to use it if there was a MP3 folder.

Here's the FFmpeg data on a sample WMA song:

Unfortunately FFmpeg still doesn't support lossless WMA (see in the output you've pasted where it says "Stream #0.0: Audio: " - it's not even recognized properly). Once FFmpeg developers add support for WMA lossless, Mezzmo will be able to support it as well.

Regarding the mp3 folder issue - is this one of the standard active playlists? If you run maintenance, does the mp3 folder appear? I assume that your mp3 files have an .mp3 extension, right?

Thanks for the fast response. Sorry to hear WMA lossless is not supported yet. Hopefully in the future, although I gather this is one of Microsoft's proprietary undocumented formats, so I suspect it may never be handled (not a fault of Mezzmo). I may have to convert these to something else like lossless FLAC.

On the missing mp3 folder, running the Maintain Library did the trick, and the mp3 folder now shows up.
