Very new at this, Please help

I am trying to take a video from my Directv HR24 and play it onto my PC in hopes that I can then convert it to a format that I could play on my Iphone.

I can follow directions but I am not computer literate yet.

If someone could direct me to an area on the forum where I could find instructions on how to accomplish this task I would be in you debt.

Does the DirecTV HR24 allow you to copy recorded videos from it? We don't have a unit here to test, but maybe someone who has one will be able to step in.

Can you copy files from either of them to your computer? If you can, then it will be possible to add them to Mezzmo and stream them to your iPhone. However, if you cannot copy (or access in any other way) recorded files on your HR20 or HR24, then you cannot stream them.

The only way to playback recordings from the HR24 is through DirecTV's proprietary DTV2PC software. Recordings are encrypted so playback is not possible using other methods. Unfortunately, the only way to get these onto your PC would probably be with a capture card.

Thanks for clearing that up - it's a bit unfortunate that it's locked like this, but then most (if not all) cable boxes I've seen are like this, so it's no surprise.

The news is better than a sharp stick in the eye, but smitbert did lead me down another road and I will look into the capture card.
