View Full Version : Maximum Files Mezzmo can handle

I just added an 1.5 terrabyte external drive with about 200,000 songs.

The computer is an IBM dual core processer

I think the program is choking, or else this many files takes a long time to process.
Any idea what the maximum limit of files is ?

I suppose the 50,000 mentioned in the faq is about the max...

Mezzmo has been tested with roughly 700,000 files and can cope with that, albeit just maintenance of that can take a few hours. There is no set limit - it depends on your CPU and amount of RAM that you have. Once those 200,000 songs are added in, Mezzmo should be working fine - is it slow to add/maintain or is it slow after all the songs have been added in and there are no tasks running in the Status pane?

I have a similar issue. When I start the maintenance, it starts okay but after about 30 mins it appears to hang. I have a quad core i7 64-bit processor. The cpu's are all working hard (80-100%), as well as the hard disk (near 100%). nothing else is running. I left it like that for over 12 hours. I only have 15,500 files. The status seems to be updating initially, until, as I said, about 30 minutes or so in (maybe sooner) and then it just seems to be hung. As soon as I kill the app, cpu/hd go back down to normal percentages.

I am evaluating the software now, but this part concerns me.

I also had the same thing happen when I chose to add my itunes library (so I gave up and instead just added my mp3's natively).

Hi Brian,

Thanks for your information. My guess is that Mezzmo may be struggling getting metadata from some of your files. We would like to see a set of logs when you start maintenance so we can see what's is slowing down Mezzmo. To do this, please enable logging (see this thread: http://forum.conceiva.com/showthread.php/419-FAQ-How-to-turn-on-diagnostic-logging) then start maintaining your library. Leave it for a while and when you notice it really slow down, kill Mezzmo and zip up all the logs and send them to us at support [at] conceiva [dot] com. Once we get them, we'll investigate it further.

I just sent the log file
The maint ran okay for the first 15 minutes, where it was counting files. once it got to 100%, it went into the finalizing step - that completed, and then it displayed "Maintaining Library: checking folders:......" and that's where it hung - the count of video, music, etc stayed at zero and the program became unresponsive.

Thanks for your help

I have been working on getting my files up.

When I get Media Monkey to load my music files, it reports 167,500 files

So far after numerous restarts of library maintenance I have only got Mezzmo to admit to 65000 files.

at first it only saw 10,000 files, so slowly it is adding them in.

Mezzmo seems to work ok for a while at about 20-30 % CPU, but a couple hours later I come back and CPU usage is 100 percent, and nothing appears to be happening. I then have to shut down and start again.

I wonder if there is a way to set it to ignore "Album Artwork" until all the files are recognized. I think they are causing too much extra work.

I'll standby for the results of the previous posters questions...

Hi Mhound,

Thanks for reporting this. There is an option in Mezzmo to turn off getting album artwork from external sources. Go to the Options dialog (Retrieving Album Information page) and uncheck the 'Retrieve album artwork from album artwork web sites' checkbox. Let us know if that produces a different result.

I turned off external artwork retrieval, but 50000 files to be retrieved remain on the screen as a system task, as opposed to a user task.

so I,m not sure what that means. However the computer seemed to be working a lot longer in library maintenance mode. After watching it for a couple of hours, I went to bed, and let it work away. But in the morning, it was choked up with cpu at 100 %. However the file recognition is up to 132000, so getting close... I am going to let the 50000 artwork files system task resolve before I do another library maintenance.

Thanks for the feedback, mhound. We'll do our own tests here to try and determine why there is excessive CPU usage/freezing when getting artwork from internet web sites.
