View Full Version : File "Title information" being displayed rather than file "Names"

Hi,

Is there perhaps something that I’m doing wrong or not doing cause my WD TV live seems to be picking up the episode names as the title and not the actual file names which I have arranged by season and episode
Is it perhaps something that I did??? cause all 3 of my WD TV live devices seem to do the same thing....however when I stream media from the WD TV Live using the Network Share option then I get the file name as I should....when I tested it with the Windows Media Player it would stream the file name as needed and not only the Episode "title" information.

This was a problem I had with version 2.4.0 and was hoping that 2.5 would help, but no joy...

I just installed a trial version of 2.5 on my notebook now and immediately had the same problem...so it must be a setting or something.

E.g. File name is "Bones s01e02 - The Man in the S.U.V.avi" and file title information is "The Man in the S.U.V" the streamed file would be "The Man in the S.U.V" and I would have no idea which episode I’m watching........very frustrating:(.

Can you please assist

Typically Mezzmo will assign the filename as the title for videos (or other file types) if it cannot find any metadata. Perhaps you have an .xml or an .nfo file in the folder with those videos and thus they inherit metadata from that? Please check. If you do, then you can delete that metadata file, then run maintenance on that folder, updating all information and titles should be overwritten with filenames.

Thanks Dennis,

seems your suggestion was spot on....the only reason I could not find the xml files or metadata files before was because they were hidden directories located on the NAS....after removing all of them and ran the maintenance on the folders the metadata was still there...so I deleted the directories from Mezzmo and deleted the library...then setup the streaming directories again and ran maint again....all sorted.:D

Much appreciated for all the support

Do you mean that your titles are not the filenames? If yes, then you can set Mezzmo to use filenames as the titles in your Mezzmo library. Go to the Options dialog (Retrieving Metadata) and click the Metadata Retrieval Settings button. In the Metadata Retrieval Settings dialog, select the "Use filename as title" checkbox for video and/or music. Now, any file that you add into Mezzmo will use the filename as the title. For existing files in your Mezzmo library, you can run Maintain Library and select the "Update media properties" checkbox and select the "Update all files' radio button.

thanks Paul. This is now fixed. "For existing files in your Mezzmo library, you can run Maintain Library and select the "Update media properties" checkbox and select the "Update all files' radio button." was indeed the way to do it.
Cheers

Sorry to reply to an old thread, but since upgrading to 4.0.1.0 there is no longer an option under Metadata Retrieval Settings for "use file name as title." Can you point me to how I can get this back?

This setting has been replaced in Mezzmo v4.0 by the new Display Titles feature. Display titles let you use keywords such as %FILENAME%, %SERIES%, %SEASON%, %ALBUM%, etc. so you can create your own titles as you want. Two places you can set display titles:

To change the display titles for all your files, go to the Options dialog (General page) and click the Display Titles button. On the Display Titles dialog, you will see display titles for each type of file. Edit them as you wish. Click Add Keyword to see available keywords. Click Presets to see some example display titles as a guide.
To change display titles just for a certain folder or playlist, right-click on the folder/playlist and click Properties. On the Properties dialog, click the Display Titles button.

Note: There is a bug in Mezzmo v4.0.1.0 where filenames will be always displayed in lower case. This has been fixed for the upcoming v4.0.2.0 minor release that we are preparing now.

Yeah my issue is replacing caps with lowercase. Hopefully new version will fix that.
Thanks.

Glad that works. The lowercase fix will be included in the v4.0.2.0 minor release that's due to be released this week.

soemhow 4.0.2.0 didn't fix the lowercase situation for me. my files are named like this "Star.Wars.Episode.VII.2016" but in mezzmo they're listed as "Star.wars.episode.vii.2016".

update: i just found out that this only seems to be the case in the details view. icons & thumbnail views show the correct title.

another thing/bug i found out yesterday where i used mezzmo for the first time viewing a movie.
on my samsung bdp 350 the runtime is way off when the file is being transcoded. with 3.x it was correct.

Thanks for the feedback regarding Details view. We'll fix that up. For the moment, you can use the Display Title column in Details view and that should look better.

Regarding the first time you play a file being transcoded, some devices wants to know the file size of the file but Mezzmo does not know it yet (since the transcoded file is being created on-the-fly) so your device displays a weird runtime. Once the file has been transcoded, then Mezzmo delivers the file size and all is OK. This should not have changed from Mezzmo v3.x to Mezzmo v4.x. What device profile are you using for your Samsung BDP? We'll check if there's been any changes.

thx paul, display title has the correct upper/lowercases. i'm using the SamsungBDP.prf profile with deactivated dts so mezzmo will transcode the sound to dd 5.1.

with 4.0.4.0 titles are still not fixed and only show lowercase. and unfortunately the running time with on the fly decoded video files still is wrong. that plus the very slow folder viewing with version 4 makes me want to go back to version 3. guess the database won't be compatible because of the outsourced thumbnails or will it work?
