Hi,

i got problems mit JPEG Playback since Update to Mezzmo 2.5.0.0 (before update JPEG Playback was fine (2.4.5.0)

Problem:
i can see Folder and and inside the thumbnails of JPEG's. But when i try to play the JPEG then TV OSD put's out "Playback not available".
The JPEG's are made with Sony DSLR-A700 and NEX-3.

i use profile BRAVIA KDL (mp4) but also tried without (MP4) = same problem

A friend does downgrade casue of same issue back to 2.4.5, but please check whats wrong.
Don't like to downgrade.

Hi,

I've just tested streaming photos to our KDL here and it seems to work fine.

Can you please enable logging (see this thread: http://forum.conceiva.com/showthread.php/419-FAQ-How-to-turn-on-diagnostic-logging) then try streaming one of the photos that fails to your TV and once it fails, stop the server and send the logs (and the photo as well) to support.

Not exactly the same issue but...

I copied some JPEGs from a Nikon D70s to a USB thumb drive and tried to display them on a new Sony KDL32CX520 and got much the same results as f77 - the thumbnails and EXIF data display correctly but "Playback not available" when I try to display the full image.

The same images display (via USB) correctly on both a Sony KDL40HX700 and a 32EX500.
So, just for the sake of a test, I copied the images to Mezzmo (version 2.5.0) and they stream correctly to a Sony BDP-S370 which is connected to the EX500. (Since the Australian EX500 doesn't do DLNA.)

The HX925 which f77 mentions and my CX520 are both current models in Australia (can't find the EX727) and are all giving trouble with JPEG whereas the earlier models seem to work fine.
Perhaps it's a Sony issue rather than Mezzmo? (Though f77 did say it worked with v2.4.5)

I'm doing some testing on this one as well, Dennis. I'll let you know if I find anything interesting.

Cheers,
Paul.

I suppose a quick test would be to connect the CX520 to Mezzmo (it's not currently connected) and see what it does with the JPEGs over DLNA instead of USB.

We have an EX600 and a S370 here and the images that were sent to us display fine. Perhaps it's a firmware issue on the TV - if the CX doesn't display them from a USB stick, then most likely they won't play over DLNA either. Are they progressive by any chance?

Good question. They were originally RAW images converted to JPEG using Nikon ViewNX2. I don't recall any options to select Progressive. I'll check when I get home.
There's a thread on another site discussing Sony's and JPEGs so it isn't an isolated issue.

I've got a batch of tests planned, Dennis - JPEGs straight from the camera, different cameras, different sources for the JPEG. I'll also convert some of the RAW files to JPEG in UFRAW - I don't recall if it offers an option for Progressive or not. I can also try CameraRAW as well.

Lucky I enjoy problem-solving. :)

It's either the progressive, or the colour space or the bit depth. I'd say those are the most things that make an image incompatible. If all of those fit within what the Sony says is supported, then it gets trickier :)

Hi paul49,

i think your Nikon ViewNX2 converts the raw data to JPEG with Chroma SubSampling 4:4:4 (YCbCr 4:4:4).
BRAVIA 2011 Modells only supports 4:2:2 and 4:2:0.

Avoid YCbCr 4:4:4 then it will work with your CX520.

My JPEG's are with Chroma SubSampling 4:2:2 . Maybe Mezzmo 2.5.0.0 converts them to 4:4:4 before streaming, thats why i cannot playback them on my BRAVIA HX925.

Hi f77,

I took some photos in JPEG rather than RAW and they display fine straight from the camera (using USB). I need to run a cable to the TV to test them through Mezzmo. I'll do that this evening and let you know what I find.
I just had a look on the Sony Australia site and they do mention that YCbCr 4:4:4 is not supported for the CX but it's not mentioned on the support page for my earlier Sonys so it looks like you may be correct.

Looks like some more testing to do.:)

Thanks for the suggestion.

Hi Dennis,

with version 2.5 my jpeg (Sony NEX3) does not work any more with Sony HX925. f77 had already written everything to the issue. I have no problems with 2450! Why do jpeg become transcoding actually?

OK,

Finally found some time to do some testing.

The CX520 does not like YCbCr 4:4:4 as suggested by f77 nor does it like Progressive JPEGS as suggested by Dennis.

As noted above, converting the .NEFs with ViewNX2 produces JPEGs which do not display. However, ufraw-batch does produce JPEGs which are acceptable to the TV from USB. I also connected it to Mezzmo and it is also happy with the same images via DLNA.

So, all good here.

Cheers,
Paul.
