Different devices support different file formats and codecs.

Which device profile are you using for the Sony?

I am using 'Sony Bravia KDL'

If I try to pre-transcode I get the message no need to pre-transcode for this profile.
Then I force a pre-transcode. It runs in hours, but I cant find transcoded file any place.

I tryed to change to 'Sony Bravia KDL W'
But then it is played in wrong aspect ratio with black bars at the top and bottom.
And I also get the message transcoding is to slow.

I are running 'Windows XP pro' cpu is Intel Core 2 DUO 3.16Ghz. 4GB ram.

My videos is on a 2TB USB drive.

Is the cpu to slow or can it be the drive ?

For transcoding 720p and higher video you need a minimum of a quad-core with i7 or higher being recommended. It's possible that the file is encoded in a way that makes it incompatible with the TV's built-in player, thus a forced transcoding is required.

Will a Intel Core 2 QUAD 2.66Ghz do, it can be placed in the same socked ?

A quad-core will help, but it may not be able to handle some 1080p files in real-time. It will help with most files though.

The highest resolution I have is 1080i

1080i and 1080p are basically the same as far as files are concerned. If you have the option, go for an i7 or higher, but if not, then yes, get a quad-core, but with highest speed (Ghz) possible.

Ok. Thanks for all your info.
For now I have converted my video to MPEG2 and it is played ok without transcodeing.
