View Full Version : Internal error on video stream to Atrix (Android phone)

Hello,

I am trying to stream a .avi movie from Mezzmo to my android phone. It fails with an internal error. When I stream the same avi file with the native "media streaming" feature built into Windows 7, it works. I can also play the file locally on the phone without issue. Any ideas? My phone comes up with the droid X profile (Atrix is made by Motorola as is the droid x).

Thanks

Lonwa

Hello Lonwa,

Using that device profile, AVI files will be transcoded to MP4 and they need to be fully transcoded before they can be played on the device. Can you please try to pre-transcode that AVI and see if it plays once it's fully transcoded?

Also, try the Motorola Xoom profile, that will pass AVIs through natively and see if that plays - if it does, we can modify our Droid X profile to also include native support for AVIs.

Thanks for the info.

I tried changing the profile to xoom but it still will not play. When I selected Droid X again, and then went into the .avi file's pre-transcoding settings for the Droid X profile, it said there were no transcoding queues added because they were already done for this profile. I confirmed I can stream the same file to my directv receiver from mezzmo. Is there a way to build my own custom media profile so that I can try all the settings, or do you have any other recommendations?

Thanks

Lonwa

If it didn't play using the Xoom profile, then perhaps the phone doesn't support AVI playback and the file does need to be transcoded.

Can you go to the file's Properties in Mezzmo, Transcoding tab and see if the transcoded file is there? If it is, then it should be streamed (as an MP4) and it should work. Perhaps transcoding failed to produce a correct file or there's some other issue. To investigate further I'd need to see some logs, so please enable logging (see this thread: http://forum.conceiva.com/showthread.php/419-FAQ-How-to-turn-on-diagnostic-logging) then delete the transcoded file so that it's re-transcoded again. After that pre-transcode it for your phone (using the Droid X profile) and once it's done, try to stream it. Once playback fails, stop the server and send the logs to support.

Device profiles are just text files, so if you are interested, you can take a look - they're located in your DeviceProfiles folder (see this thread for its location: http://forum.conceiva.com/showthread.php/467-FAQ-Where-are-device-profiles-located).

The best way to view movies on android devices from any streaming media server is to go to the android market, download MX Video Player and download all the codecs for MX Video Player. Once I did that, I have been able to view all my movies (in avi format) from my windows 7 computer. I can watch them on my Asus tablet, my two samsung galaxy tablets, and evo 4g and evo shift. I struggled for months trying to figure out what was not working and once I found the MX Video Player, problem solved. Hope that helps.

I checked the file transcoding section and there were no files listed. When I went to the general properties section it says the file formate is avi, and the video codec is mpeg-4 part 2. Could this be the problem?

Thanks again,

Lonwa

MPEG4 codec is fine - that means it's an AVI file with MPEG4 video in it. This is different to MP4 video (the AVI and MP4 containers are different to each other).

Since there is no pre-transcoded files, is there some other logging you want me to do?

Yes, please just do the steps I've posted previously and send in the logs. This will give me a base to investigate this further, as I'll see better what's going on with your system.

Thanks

Have you guys figured this out yet? I'm having the same problem with my new Motorola Droid Bionic phone.

Thanks,

Mike

Not yet, but I'll be happy to work with you on this as well. Please open a support request and mention this thread and which player you're using on the phone and we'll proceed from there.

I have a Moto Atrx 2, and Mezzmo recognized my device as a "Moto Droid X". Obviously that profile causes us problems and we get the internal error. The solution is to use the "Android Honeycomb" profile. No more error and videos stream perfectly. Try it out and post back if it works. I hope that helps.
