Is there a way to filter Active Playlists?

Hello,
I've been trying to figure out if there is a way to do this, and searching the forum to see if anyone else has tried, but here goes...

I created an "Artist Index" playlist consisting of Smart Playlists (i.e. Artists beginning with A) to make searching through my library a little faster when using a Sony BDP-S580. I want to be able to - within each Smart Playlist - create an Active Playlist of Artist --> Album that only includes that portion of my index (say artists beginning with A).

Is there a way to do this that I just haven't found yet, or is this not do-able yet? I am using version 2.5.0.0 on a Windows 7 machine.
