View Full Version : Mezzmo can't see any PCs on my network

I previously had only 1 wireless router on my network, and Mezzmo could see my PC (running Mezzmo), and even my wife's PC (not running any server that I know of), and I would connect to my PC running Mezzmo just fine (awesome product by the way. I am a registered/paying user)

Well... my only problem is that my Bluray's wireless is so weak that my videos would pause and say "Loading" every few seconds now that I have rearranged my office and there are even more objects blocking my wireless router (My bluray player is in the living room). I believe the signal was getting too low or too noisy to stream the video.

So, in order to help things, I took a Linksys wired router (BEFSR41) and made it my new gateway/dns/connected-to-my-cablemodem and configured my wireless router to simply work as an access point. I then moved the wireless router closer to the living room and connected it via ethernet cable to my new wired gateway.

Everything works perfectly... except that my Bluray no longer lists any devices, including, and most importantly, my PC running Mezzmo.
My wireless PCs can connect to the internet and even connect to wired PCs through Windows Explorer.
The bluray does connect to the gateway and gets a proper IP address and I can connect to the internet and watch Netflix.

But there are no devices on the list. I looked through the FAQ on this forum and:

UPNP is turned OFF on both routers (as far as I can tell)
There is no firewall running on my PC or either router, including Windows Firewall
The new IP for the bluray does not show up in the Media Devices list of Mezzmo on my PC, so it has never connected to the server
I AM able to ping the bluray's IP from my PC that is running Mezzmo

I am guessing that the DLNA traffic is somehow not going from the wireless router to the wired router, but I'm not sure why. I am guessing it is a setting in one or both routers, but not sure what since everything else is working.

I appreciate any help you can give.

Thanks,

WallyJ

Is your Blu-ray player and your computer running Mezzmo server on the same subnet (i.e. the first three numbers of the IP address must be same - e.g. 192.168.1.x)?

Yes. My PC is at 192.168.2.110 and the Bluray is 192.168.2.158.

The bluray also shows the correct gateway IP address. It also pulls the correct DNS IP from the gateway.

It seems something on your home network is blocking DLNA/UPnP communication - probably something in your routers' settings. Check the network type (private, public, etc.). Check your routers' DMZ. Check your routers' port forwarding settings.

Will do.

What should all of those settings look like, remembering that I have my gateway which is a wired router, with a wireless router acting as an access point.

Thanks!

What should all of those settings look like...

I am not 100% sure, as I am unfamiliar with your exact setup. You just need to read about each setting (use google to help you) and tweak them if they impact on your home network. Also use google to search for how-tos, etc.

Ok... well... I took it one step further and put both routers back to factory defaults, only changing the IP scheme and adding WPA encryption (which worked before).

So far I am back in the same boat, where the bluray connects to the wireless and the internet, but not the DLNA. Any other advice would be welcomed. Thanks.

Try turning off any UPnP features and firewall features in both routers and see if that helps. Power cycle them (turn off & on) after making changes to the router settings. Does this help?

UPNP is off by default on both routers... so no... no difference. I even turned it on for the wireless router... didn't help, then turned it back off again.
Made sure the firewall on the wireless is off. The wired router does not have a built-in firewall (older), so it isn't firewall.

Perhaps send us a set of logs and maybe we can see something that may be blocking DLNA/UPnP traffic. Please enable logging (see http://forum.conceiva.com/showthread.php/419-FAQ-How-to-turn-on-diagnostic-logging). Stop and start your Mezzmo server. Turn off and on your Blu-ray player and try to list media servers on it. When no servers appear, stop your Mezzmo server and exit Mezzmo. Zip up all the logs and send them to us at support [at] conceiva [dot] com.

Ok, I have sent my logs to the support address.

Interestingly, I didn't want to wait for a reply before using my movie library, so I moved the bluray back into my bedroom and connected it back to the wired network.

The bluray still can't see Mezzmo. Granted I am using a different wired router than my wireless router from before, but I even went back to the default settings on the router (BEFSR41)

I even disconnected my wireless router from the wired one to see if that would change anything... no change...

So I have technically never connected my bluray player to Mezzmo through the BEFSR41 successfully. Only through the wireless router.

Completely stuck at this point.

Ideas?

Thanks for your logs. We'll analyze them to see if we can see any reason for no connection. Whilst we are doing this, connection problems are typically always related to something on your computer or router that is blocking your DLNA/UPnP device and Mezzmo communicating with each other. Often it is a firewall, anti-virus, system protection software, different LAN subnets, etc. We have a checklist that fixes most users' connection problems - http://forum.conceiva.com/showthread.php/1183-FAQ-Cannot-see-Mezzmo-on-your-DLNA-device. Please work through these and see if any help.
