After perusing the forums I found some older posts regarding DHCP and Device Profiles, but I am not sure if the feature has been added (the posts were from 2010) to map devices to MAC.

Problem:
If a device gets a DHCP lease and is automatically mapped to the correct device profile for the device, subsequent devices leasing the same IP end up using the profile for the original device that first had that IP.

It *appears* as if the mapping to MAC address functionality is not in place yet, but I do see the tick box to turn it on and off (or that is to say, to map by IP rather than by MAC) so I am confused by the behavior. I am using v2.5.

Also, it looks like when a device connects with a different IP (same MAC address) the other entries for the device with that MAC are not removed.

So the behavior I am seeing, for example, is I have one Sony Bravia TV in my home, but I see many entries for it in the device list, but only one of the devices has the MAC address that matches the TV itself. If another device connects with the same IP address at a later time, the new device retains the name of the TV, and additionally retains the TV device profile. I am unsure if this would effect transcoding or not - i.e. all files to the Bravia must be transcoded, but media streamed to other devices in my home should not be. So if another device connects and "adopts" the orphaned profile, does transcoding to the device which supports media format x end up being tanscoded based on the Bravia setting? Hope that makes sense...

Any ideas? (besides setting everything up to use static IPs - I have a lot of devices in my home)

Thanks!

Mezzmo does use MAC addresses for device identification. We have recently found several issues in our MAC/IP address device identification and fixed them. I think they will resolve the issues you mention. The fixes will be included in the upcoming release (v2.6) that hopefully will be released later this week.
