View Full Version : Control of file names displayed on PS3?

My set up: Windows 7 with Beyond TV DVR recording shows from a HD Homerun box, pointing Meezmo at the folder with the recorded files, and watching the recorded shows using a PS3 - works like a champ.

The only issue I have is the format of the files displayed on the PS3: it only displays the episode name and not the show, so we have no idea what the show is. For example: the file named "American Idol-(1 Voted Off)-2012-04-12-0.mp4" will display "1 Voted Off" on the PS3's file browser - no show name or date. Is there a way to control what file name is presented via the DLNA interface?

Thanks!

I just tested adding a file called "American Idol-(1 Voted Off)-2012-04-12-0.mp4" into Mezzmo and then streaming it to a PS3. The title on the PS3 was correctly "American Idol-(1 Voted Off)-2012-04-12-0" and not as you are getting "(1 Voted Off)".

The probable reason for the title being changed in your case is that Mezzmo is reading the "(1 Voted Off)" title from the metadata within the MP4 file or that there are external metadata files in the same folder (e.g. "American Idol-(1 Voted Off)-2012-04-12-0.xml", or series.xml, or "American Idol-(1 Voted Off)-2012-04-12-0.nfo", etc.) and these metadata files contain the incorrect "(1 Voted Off)" title. If you have external medata files, try moving them out of the folder and then running Maintain Library.

You can right-click on the file in Mezzmo and click Properties. In the General tab, you will see the title of the file that is delivered to your PS3 and other devices in your home.

Hmmm... I deleted the XML files that Beyond TV makes and then rebuilt the media library - no change. The name must be coming from within the MP4 file. I will have to follow up with them (and Google) to see how I can control that.

Is there an option (or going to be an option) to control what is presented via DLNA? Some sort of format string where I could specify %filename% or %show%-%name% etc...

Whatever is displayed in the Title edit box in the Properties dialog in Mezzmo is delivered to your device. You can edit & change it as you wish. Right-click on a file in Mezzmo and click Properties to display the Properties dialog.

I am looking for an automated solution. I am recording 6 - 8 shows every night for my family to watch the next day via this method so I need something that does not require manual work on my part for every file.

Understand. If possible, send us one of the MP4 files and we can tell you whether Mezzmo is extracting title metadata from within the file. If the MP4 file is large (>10MB) then place it on a filesharing site and send the download link to us at support [at] conceiva [dot] com.

I have the same issue here. In building my library I have spent many hours ensure the tags inside the MP4 are as I want them to be. i have ensured that for my TV shows that I have set the MP4 type to 'TV Show' and set the shows season correctly. Inside of itunes this then shows up nicely with a master folder for the show and subfolders for the different seasons. I had hoped that Mezzmo would do the same but it doesnt and seems to completely ignore those tags.

I am co-evaluating tvmobili as well right now and that shows me the tv shows as itunes does - which is what I want. What I dont like with that the connection to my sony Blu ray player I use to stream the content to is a little flakey. This is where Mezzmo scores as the connect seems rock solid - it is just that I am frustrated in how I need to navigate and select my (nicely organised in iTunes) content.

Am I missing something obvious that would make my Mezzmo experience complete? :D

Thanks

As mentioned in my previous post, if possible please send us one of your MP4 files so we can investigate and fix why Mezzmo is not extracting the relevant metadata from within the MP4 file. If the MP4 file is large (>10MB) then place it on a filesharing site and send the download link to us at support [at] conceiva [dot] com.
