Happy customer here just looking for some guidance.

1. I watch predominately very large mkv’s and pre transcode them – it that necessary or am I wasting my time – I have a very fast pc with tons of ram and memory so I really don’t care either way – just looking to get the most trouble free performance.

2. When watching mkv’s “pause” seems to work but when it resumes it is not in the right place. – Some help here would be much appreciated.

3. Any harm in using 2 different BDP’s at the samw time showing different videos through Mezzmo?

4. I am thinking of making a home server pc with Win Server 2008 64-bit (or I guess it could be win7) – would / can I put Mezzmo on that server and have it stream directly from there? What do you recommend?

Thanks

Some answers:

1. Pre-transcoding will mean that there's no transcoding on-the-fly when you stream the movies to your BDP. So that will lessen the chance of any stuttering, etc. due to transcoding on-the-fly taking place. It may be unnecessary though to do this step - since some files may not need to be transcoded and can be streamed natively to your BDP, and/or your PC may be fast enough to transcode on-the-fly. I would suggest trying to stream a few movies without the pre-transcoding step and see how your computer/network setup performs. It may be fine & that means you don't have to worry about waiting for the pre-transcoding step to finish.

2. Resuming a movie on the Panasonic BDP is time-based. When your BDP requests to resume the movie, Mezzmo must approximate the byte position in the file where the requested time is. Is the resume location far out? Is it before the correct resume location or after?

3. No harm in streaming the same movie (or different movies) to multiple devices in your home using Mezzmo. Mezzmo is designed to stream to multiple devices. Your home network will be one limiting factor when streaming (i.e. congestion), so we recommend using Ethernet cables for best performance (as compared to wireless, etc.).

4. Mezzmo users typically have either of these hardware configuations: (i) Mezzmo running on a Windows PC accessing files on internal hard disks or an external NAS drive, or (ii) Mezzmo running on a WHS or Window Server machine accessing files on internal hard disks or a NAS drive. Both setups are fine.

Mezzmo streams external subtitle files (.SRT, .SUB, .SMI) to devices. If your device supports playing external subtitle files, then it will display them. Make sure the subtitle file is in the same folder as the video file and has the same filename. Example: c:\videos\inception.mkv and c:\videos\inception.srt.

OK - we'll check this out and adjust the resume position to be more accurate.

OK -- the new releases have the pause working a little better - thanks -- or is it coincidence?

I still can't get the subtitles to work -- I use Mezzmo-->Panny BDP --> Samsung tv -- I put the srt files in the folder with the same title --- I can't figure out which device / how to turn on the subtitles.

Thanks

Your Panasonic BDP will only display external subtitles for DivX files (AVI).

Your Samsung TV should display subtitles for your .SRT files.

For external subtitle files, two things to remember: (i) make sure the external subtitle file is in the same folder as the video file and the file name matches the video file name (e.g. c:\inception.mkv and c:\inception.srt), and (ii) if you added the subtitle file into the folder on your computer after adding the video file into your Mezzmo library, then you will need to maintain this playlist/folder in Mezzmo so that Mezzmo picks up the subtitle file (to do this, right-click on the playlist/folder in Mezzmo and click 'Maintain Playlist').

If still no success, turn on logging (see http://forum.conceiva.com/showthread.php/419-FAQ-How-to-turn-on-diagnostic-logging) and restart your Mezzmo server. Stream a video on your TV that has a .SRT subtitle file and, when you don't see any subtitles when the video plays on your TV, stop your Mezzmo server and exit Mezzmo. Zip up all the logs and send them to us at support [at] conceiva [dot] com.
