View Full Version : Why is 8Player transcoding when it can play the format natively

I use 8player on my ipad2. I've read a lot on the forum about native formats, but surely if the player can play the format it shouldnt need to transcode.

Why then does mezzmo insist on transcoding AVI files for instance, when with the same player through WMP it plays fine.

Can the profile for 8player be edited to include the complete list of formats supported by 8player?

Hi,
you can try using the 'Alpha Systems Media Link Player Lite (iPad)' device profile as this contains support for streaming AVI files to your iPad without transcoding.

WMP does in fact transcode it does so pretty transparently so you are probably not aware of it. If interested check out

Alpha Systems media player works now with most formats. Just need to pre-transcode the MKV files..

Thanks for help.
