View Full Version : Occasional Audio Sync Issues Sony KDL-40EX503 TV

I have Mezzmo installed on a PC which has a 3GHZ quad core intel processor 8 gig of ram running windows 7 x64, wired into a 10/100 network and also a Sony Bravia KDL-40EX503 TV which again is wired into the network. The network has a number of other devices, including a sony PS3 (wired) and a netgear EVA 2000 media player (wired) In addition the network also supports two 802.11n devices which are an apple ipad and iphone.

The Sony TV is supports .VOB and .m2ts and .ts video file but sadly there is no .avi support. I have a number of .avi movies and so mezzmo transcodes these files using the SonyBraviaKDL.prf profile in C:\Users\All Users\Conceiva\Mezzmo\DeviceProfiles. Sometimes I pre-transcode the files and other times I transcode on the fly. Transcoding is now set to its default settings though I have tried lowering the CPU priority in the past.

On occasions (usually when I am showing friends/family how good mezzmo is!!) I play an .avi movie and after a short while the audio begins to move out of sync with the video. If I stop the movie and restart it the audio sync is corrected, but after a short time it slips behind again.

Now on other occasions I can go to the exact same movie and it runs fine.. no sync issues at all. I thought it maybe something running on the PC such as 'defrag' or virus scanner etc but as far as I can see nothing 'additional' appears to be running at the time the audio sync issues occur so thought the problem maybe to do with the configuration of ffmpeg and the assigned transcoding profile.

I am new to mezzmo and ffmpeg, but have read in this forum about adding -async to the SonyBraviaKDL.prf profile under the section/tag <ffmpegadditional> but having tried that in each mention of the tag in the profile I simply then get "file not found" on my TV, albeit I can see and browse to the .avi movie itself. I have now reverted back to the original SonyBraviaKDL.prf profile.

I was hoping the -async option would work but that has not fixed it for me.

My Sony PS3 does support the .avi format and therefore no transcoding is necessary and mezzmo streams all the .avi movie files perfectly, in fact I have never encountered any problems with the PS3 and the audio sync etc has never been an issue, same goes for the EVA 2000 media player.

I just thought I would ask to see if anyone else has experienced the same or similar issue and to ask for some support or advice as to what I can try next.

The virus firewall software running on the PC is Kaspersky Internet Security 12 - Note I have not disabled this at the moment as I am not sure that this is the cause of the sync issue.

This is my first post, so thanks in advance :)

I have a Sony KDL-32EX600 TV and have also experienced the Audio Sync issues. Stopping and restarting has resolved the issue most of the time. I have assumed that this is aggravated when you FFWD or RWND, but have not been able to confirm this though.

Yes FFWD or RWND does indeed aggravate the sync issue. Perhaps it is an issue with the KDL "EX" series- I guess if this cannot be resolved, I may have to convert the .avi files to mpeg2 format (.ts or .vob etc.) but not only is that a long slow process, but the output files are often 2-3 times the size of the .avi file. Hopefully mezzmo or someone here can solve the issue.

Thanks for the detailed post. It appears that the Sony Bravia TV's firmware is having problems when playing these files and it seems that using FF/REW exacerbates the problem in the firmware even further. It will not be related to your computer setup, home network setup or software running on your PC as they all appear fine.

We are about to release Mezzmo v2.6 this week and this includes several tweaks to the Sony Bravia device profiles and includes the latest build of ffmpeg.exe. This may help resolve your problem since the transcoded files may be encoded in such a way that the Sony Bravia's firmware may cope better. Once we release Mezzmo v2.6 and you try it, please do post back and let us know.

I'm now running a fully registered Mezzmo v2.6. on an Intel Core 2 Duo CPU with 4.00GB RAM.

I am servering to a SONY Bravia KDL

I always Pre-transcode - Transcode CPU priority ub Normal

I take the default Pre-transcode setting, which for an AVI file are :-

File Format = mpegts
Video Channel = h264
Audio Channels = ac3

I'm still getting sound sync problems. Stopping, restarting does seem to temporaraly fix ....but not for long. Also seems to happen at scene changes?

Can anyone help?

Any progress made on this? I have the exact same problem with the most current version. Its not on all my videos, the lower quality stuff seems to be fine. Everything I have is pre-transcoded. I also noticed that if I "save as" my pretranscoded files as a mpeg I can play on the computer, but the Bravia cannot play it.

Hi beowulf,

Contact us at support [at] conceiva [dot] com for a patch to try. In your email, please include the FFmpeg information on one of the files that has the problem you mention. To do this, right-click on the file in Mezzmo and click 'Get FFmpeg Information'.

I have a Sony KDL-32EX603 TV. Mezmo is version 2.7.1.0.

Intel Core 2 Duo CPU @ 2.1Ghz
RAM 4.00GB (2.99 GB Usable)
Running Windows 7 Ultimate

I trascode a variety of video formats including AVI, MKV and MP4 though I've not noticed any difference in voice sync problems between formats.

I'm having voice sync issues much of the time....which I suspect may be caused by the Pre-transcoding settings I'm using. I usualy use:-

File Formats = mpegts
Video Channels = h264 (24fps)
Audo Channel = ac3

Can someone give me any guidance on how to solve this issue please?

Hi samwise,

It may be a similar issue that has been reported. We're looking into to it now & will report back when it has been fixed.
