I spent a few hours yesterday adding metadata to over 700 movie files. They now have cd cover artwork. My WD HD TV box shows the new movie icons, but no METADATA. IE no Movie info, no ratings, no years, director... nothing. Today i plan to drop more memory into the server. Also thinking that eset nod is blocking data transfer. I would just like to see the movie info on this WD HD live box.... Any ideas??

I don't think you will see the metadata if you are relying upon Mezzmo to feed the WDTV device. I have a WDTV SMP (Gen 3) and the information delivered to it is the same as when I connect my Panasonic Viera (2011) to mezzmo - Thumbnails derived from 'folder.jpg' and that's it.

A previous post on how to see metadata displayed was answered with 'It depends on the client's capabilities'. I don't think there is a WDTV device profile (I don't have Mezzmo installed at the moment, following a PC rebuild, and I'm waiting for 2.6 to come out).

If you want to see metadata, backdrops etc, why not use the built-in capabilities of WDTV or install a theme? I've got the Black Mamba theme installed and it looks pretty good.

Theme looks great, will test that out today. Server running mizzmo likes the xtra memory. No network errors in logs, packet loss nada.

Mezzmo delivers the metadata (such as title, genre, album, artist, artwork, etc.) to your device, but it is up to your device to display it. Each device implements their DLNA differently and displays different presentations of folders & files. I think the WD TV Live has various modes for viewing lists of videos (preview mode, thumbnail mode & list mode). Check your remote control buttons when you list videos and see if you can change mode.

Thanks for the support Paul. Yes the WD TV Live has 3 or 4 menue choices. non show the movie info. I am running ThumbGen on my movie collection. Will see how it goes.

Paul,
The metadata parameters used by WDTV seem to be subtly but significantly different to Mezzmo's. If you recall I raised the issue of how to consolidate the amount of metadata to be maintained as WDTV does not recognise MYMovies.xml files. You hinted that maybe, just maybe, Mezzmo would support WDTV XML data in the future.

We have had several requests for supporting the non-DLNA, proprietary features of WD TV Live models. Given the popularity of the various WD TV Live models, we will certainly look into these features and support as many as possible for a future version of Mezzmo.

Still crossing fingers :)

To my knowledge, I still don't think WD TV Live media players read & display very many standard DLNA or even WD proprietary metadata attributes when streaming via DLNA. We'll continue to look into it, but it does seem to be a restriction of WD TV Live's firmware when streaming via DLNA. If you know of any DLNA servers that can get WD TV Live media players to display more metadata, then let us know and we will certainly add this into Mezzmo as well.

I'm still hoping that there will be some progress on this front. The metadata that Mezzmo collects is great but none of it shows up in WDTV LIVE except the image. I have a WDTV LIVE HUB and it collects metadata on it's own. It's very nice to be able to see that. I'd love to have it on my other two non-hubs. I did try ThumbGen which is very cool and you can make some great walls and data sheets. The problem is that you have to use custom themes which slow WDTV browsing down too much and makes paging through hundreds of movies unrealistic.

As mentioned, Mezzmo delivers the metadata in standard DLNA/UPNP form to your WD TV Live boxes, but their firmware seems to ignore it. If anyone knows a DLNA server that can get metadata to display on their WD TV Live boxes, then let us know and we'll be able to get Mezzmo working as well.

I'm sure you tried to contact them. One would think that it would be in their best interest to make their device as compatible as possible in that respect.

Would it help you if I sent the metadata from the WTDV Hub? It seems to create two files. One a JPEG file with extension .metathumb and the other an XML file. I will paste one below for the movie Death Race...

Thanks, deaded. We'll look into it and see if we can get the WD boxes to accept these external metadata files via DLNA.
