A Couple of Questions from New Customer...

Hi folks,

Just purchased Mezzmo - thanks for easy transaction. I have it all up and working already and streaming to a Samsung TV and a WD TV Live SMP box - no problems.

Just a few quick questions...

1. Is there any way to have these devices (TV and WD TV live) display larger cover art? The ones displayed and squashed and distorted and too small to really worth having?
2. Is there any other way to use Mezzmo on anything other than a PC? Can you run mezzmo from an Android phone app with content sourced via a NAS drive?
3. Thinking of getting a WD My Book Live NAS drive... Can Mezzmo do anything directly with this, or will I still need to run a PC to stream content? Trying to avoid having a PC running if possible (as I fall asleep at night watching TV and don't want PC on all night chewing power).
4. Re #3, is there a way to switch PC off automatically after it completes streaming a movie file? That would be a handy feature :) Certain FTP programs have this function whereby you can set them to switch PC off after a file finishes transferring. Possible with Mezzmo?

Some answers:

1. In Mezzmo, go to the Options dialog (Streaming page) and change the artwork thumbnail size to 320 x 320 pixels. After this change, you will need to run Maintain Library in Mezzmo so new (larger) thumbnails are generated & stored into your Mezzmo library. In the Maintain Library dialog, select the 'Update artwork' checkbox and the 'Update all files' checkbox. Once completed, try browsing your Mezzmo library on your WD TV Live.

2. The current version of Mezzmo is Windows only. We have have both Android and iOS apps planned for later this year.

3. You will still need to install & run Mezzmo server on your PC if you wish to stream content using Mezzmo server.

4. We don't have any shutdown settings in Mezzmo or Mezzmo server as yet. We'll consider them for a future version. Thanks for the suggestion.

is there a way to switch PC off automatically?

You could use Windows' built in Automatic shutdown feature to shutdown your PC at whatever time you like.

Create a Timer for Automatic PC Shutdown:

Right-click on the desktop...
Select New > Shortcut.

A 'New Shortcut' dialog box will appear.
The location box is where you will enter the details: shutdown.exe is for calling the shutdown executable.

s is the command for shutdown.
If you want to restart the computer instead of shutting it down, replace the s with r.
If you’d like to logoff, replace s with l.

f is for performing a forced shutdown.
If an application stops responding when shutting down, this command will force close it.
Using this command is not compulsory, but recommended.

t command is for specifying the time shutdown will take place.
After you add the t command, leave a space, then enter the time in seconds.

Combine the command in one line: shutdown.exe -s -f -t seconds
This command can also be initiated from the 'Run' box or CMD.

't' examples:

1800 = 1/2 hour
3600 = 1 hour
5400 = 1.5 hours
10800 = 3 hours
21600 = 6 hours

Click next and the shortcut will be created on the desktop.

Give it a name.
If you want to change the time, right-click on the shortcut, select 'Properties', and change the time in the dialog that opens.

Double-click it whenever you wish to initiate a timed automatic shutdown


How to abort Shutdown:

Click the WinKey + R
The 'Run' dialog box will appear.
Type shutdown.exe a ('a' stands for abort).
The shutdown timer will vanish.

FreeRyde, good suggestion also to use the in-built shutdown in Windows. That will work until Mezzmo has this feature. Cheers.
