Your Mezzmo media server is installed as a Windows service under your user account on your computer. To install a Windows service under a user account, you must enter your Windows username and password.

Important: Mezzmo does not save your Windows username or password or send it to another program or to any web site. Your Windows username and password is used only to register the Mezzmo media server as a Windows service under your user account on your computer.

More Information

The Mezzmo media server service is installed on a per user basis. That means that the Mezzmo media server is installed as a service under your user account. If another person has a user account on your computer and they also use Mezzmo, then they will also have their own Mezzmo media server installed as a service under their user account. There is no limit to the number of Mezzmo media servers running on your computer. The benefit of this is that it lets multiple people using your computer have their own Mezzmo library of music, videos and photos on your computer.

Example

Imagine a family has a Dell PC and it is shared by 4 members of the family. Each member of the family can have their own Mezzmo library and Mezzmo media server running on the same computer:

The father could have his own library of movies, music and photos. If his Windows user login was "David", then his Mezzmo media server would be called "Mezzmo (David - Dell PC)".
The mother could have her own library of TV shows, movies and photos. If her Windows user login was "Julia"", then her Mezzmo media server would be called "Mezzmo (Julia - Dell PC)".
The son could have his own library of music, sports videos and TV shows. If his Windows user login was "Peter", then his Mezzmo media server would be called "Mezzmo (Peter - Dell PC)".
The daughter could have her own library of music videos and TV shows. If her Windows user login was "Sarah", then her Mezzmo media server would be called "Mezzmo (Sarah - Dell PC)".

When a member of the family browses for media servers on their DLNA device (for example, their Sony Bravia TV or their Xbox 360 or their PS3), then they would see 4 media servers listed. The family member would simply choose their own media server to browse and play media files from their Mezzmo library.

Useful Tips

You can change the display name of your Mezzmo media server using the Media Server Setting dialog in Mezzmo. Whenever you change the name, Mezzmo needs to re-register your Mezzmo media server as a Windows service under its new name.

You can use the Sharing Permissions dialog in Mezzmo to restrict devices in your home from accessing your media files.

You can see all Mezzmo media server services listed in Windows Services by running "Services.msc" from the Start/Run menu in Windows.
