View Full Version : DLNA devices sees videos on Mezzmo as WMV files.

Have a number of devices that browse DLNA and I have noticed that they all have a tendency to think some of my videos on my Mezzmo server are WMV files which is not the case. ALL files are either MP4 for video or MP3 for audio. The problem is when you try to play these files from the DLNA player, they fail to play. What is making the browser think they are WMV? Any help would be appreciated.

Hi,
depending upon the device profile you are using, Mezzmo might be transcoding the files to WMV, so even though the original files are MP4 they will be presented to the device as WMV. Can you please tell us the device make and model and the device profile you are using?

Hi,
depending upon the device profile you are using, Mezzmo might be transcoding the files to WMV, so even though the original files are MP4 they will be presented to the device as WMV. Can you please tell us the device make and model and the device profile you are using?

Okay I have several devices and will try to describe each device and corresponding information.

Device 1: Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 (GT-P3113) BubbleUPnP - Mezzmo Device Profile = Samsung Galaxy Tab
Typically when I play a video using BubbleUPnP as the browser using MX Player from Mezzmo it works perfectly no transcoding, but when I pick a video that show WMV as the filetype instead of MP4 (M4V) (I know the file is actually a MP4) Mezzmo begins to Transcode it to a ASF (WMV3).

Device 2: Panasonic DMP-BDT110(Rev 1.88) - Mezzmo Device Profile - Panasonic BDP
Sometimes the video selection is grayed out and when selected simply says cannot play. Other times it starts to play then quits playing yet it doesn't stop and go back to selections. Mezzmo continues to Transcode section to MPEG2.

Device 3: Windows 7 - JRiver Media Center 17 - Mezzmo device profile = Generic NTSC
First thing was to change Mezzmo device profile from default Windows Media Player to Generic NTSC. That allowed some success but problem still, too bad it really shows promise. First time I have seen the Movie description as I highlight file that is stored on Mezzmo. Along with the Thumbnail it makes it easy for my family to make movie selections from a library of 600 plus titles you need all the help you can get. Too many issues here to describe and some could obviously be on JRivers end but it's something I would really love to see work.

Thanks again for your assistance, While I get a little frustrated at all the tech and trying to get it to work it still is an amazing thing to see when it all comes together. Great Product.

If the MP4 file does not contain either mpeg4 video with aac audio or h264 video with aac audio then Mezzmo will transcode it to WMV, you can try disabling transcoding for this device by going to 'Media Devices' in Mezzmo and double-click the device in the list then on the Transcoding Tab uncheck the box 'Transcode incompatible media files so that they can be played on the device', then click 'OK' and after restarting your Mezzmo media server try to play the MP4 file on the device.

For the issue with the Panasonic DMP-BDT110, can you please enable diagnostic logging http://forum.conceiva.com/showthread.php/419-FAQ-How-to-turn-on-diagnostic-logging and then after restarting your Mezzmo media server, try browsing a playlist where the video selection is greyed out and also try to play a file where it will quit playing, then send the logs to support [at] conceiva [dot] com.

JRiver appears to only play the file once transcoding is complete, so you can try pre-transcoding a file by right-clicking on the file in Mezzmo and selecting 'Pre-transcode Files...' then check the box for the JRiver device then click 'Choose Formats...' then select the bolded format and click 'OK' and then 'OK' again to begin pre-transcoding. Once Pre-transcoding is complete try to play the file with JRiver. You could also try turning off transcoding for this device as JRiver may support a lot of formats natively.

Thanks for the reply Peter, you might have something there (MP4) I checked and the first movie on list that is seen as a WMV has a different encoding then those around it, instead of aac it says ATSC A/52 / AC-3. I typical set Dolby Digital 5.1 tp passthru on Handbrake nowadays. I will look some more.

Well actually it's always been a streaming problem. I have uploaded the log files and am providing the file information in hopes it might shed some clues why I am having trouble with some movie files even so they are made the same way all the others are.
