View Full Version : Unable to discover Mezzmo service from my Samsung TV

Hi,

i just bought Samsung series 6 (UA40C6900). It has DLNA/Internet@TV/Network Features.

However when i tried to browse my movie/music library using

mezzmo my TV does not recognize it. But when i tried with TV***ty, the TV can see both my library and My PC media player library.

At the moment i am using the trial version of the software, i am consider using this because it can broadcast mkv, while others (see above) doesn't

I have tried everything from:
- Unblock my mezzmo on my firewall list
- turn off my firewall
- turn off anti virus + firewall completely
- I already make sure that the service is up and running correctly and has admin privilege.
- Choose differnet profile in mezzmo server configuration (Samsung B, Samsung C, WDTV)

Does anyone know what seems to be the problem here?

Hi,

If the TV doesn't see Mezzmo at all, can you please send a message to support <at> conceiva <dot> com and I'll send you a patched version of the server that may fix this issue.

Hi,

Thanks for your support, i just got back from work. I tried it and it works. Now my TV can discover the service.

There is one thing however, Mezzmo doesn't seems to ignore *.mkv files, instead it transcode it as well. Hence this can slow down the performance. When i tried to watch *mkv (h264 codec), i need to wait like for 30 mins or so otherwise the movie will only be played half.

I've tried to go to Media Server -> Transcoding Setting -> tick "turn off transcoding for all connected devices" (no luck, instead my tv giving me message "Error: Unsupported Format"). I have tried to play the same exact file using my USB and it works flawlessly, My TV supports mkv (H264)

Then i also tried Media Server -> Media Devices.. -> Edit my devices -> Advanced -> Choose Always to all options but Deliver DLNA baseline format to the devices (also no joy)

Other than that this software seems perfect.

ps: i also tried different profile like Generic Device #1 - 4, Samusung B & C, WDTV Live, all give me similar result.

Can you please tell me if you have a B or a C series (or an A) and I'll post a modified device profile for it here? I assume you've got a B, and MKV was disabled in the device profile for it previously (thus they were transcoded), but please do confirm which series you have.

Also, please undo all the changes in the Advanced tab, because that may change the way the TV requests files and even the updated device profile may not work (normally no changes are required there).

I think it's C series, because when i checked it at the samsung australia, they only list it as Series 5, 6, 7 ,8

But judging from the product code UA40C6900 i think it should be C series. But i'll find out more about it first..

Yes, it's a bit confusing - I'm trying to find the relation between these as well. It seems that Samsung has different model naming schemes for LED and LCD TVs (and Plasmas as well), so when I am talking about A, B, C series, I actually mean LCD TV series, e.g. LA46C650, but I don't know how they relate to LED TVs and whether the firmware is the same or whether they need different device profiles altogether. I'll try to research this as well - might just go to a shop and visually see the Media Player :)

according to this post by this bloko at http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showpost.php?p=17920699&postcount=60

The LCD/LED/Plasma line up for 2010 are:

LN37C650
LN40C650
LN46C650
LN55C650

LN37C630
LN40C630
LN46C630
LN55C630
LN60C630

LN46C750
LN55C750

Samsung LED series 6,7,8,9:

UN32C6500
UN40C6500
UN46C6500
UN55C6500

UN40C7000
UN46C7000
UN55C7000

UN40C8000
UN46C8000
UN55C8000
UN65C8000

UN46C9000 ( metal color Bezel, 3/16" thick !! )
UN55C9000 ( metal color Bezel, 3/16" thick !! )

I think C means 2010 line up. Last year LCD line up of samsung have B tag in the middle.
The naming convention however may varies depending on your location. UK naming convention will have something like LE40C750 instead UN46Cxxxx...

http://www.zimbio.com/High-Definition+Television/articles/533/Guide+understanding+Samsung+TV+names

here's a good link which explans about the naming convention, but unfortunately it only applies for european / US market. While for the rest of us who live in Asia / Pasific, apparently Samsung has something different. Bugger......

Btw, how can i modify profiles for my Mezzmo? since all i got is list of presets..

Paul

Thanks for the great info!

A very interesting question that's on my mind is whether the LED and LCD TVs share firmware (especially the Media Player) or not? The numbers of the firmware look different, so I can't be sure whether it's the same or not.

FWIW, out test Samsung TV here is LA32C550J1F, which is the base for our "Samsung C" device profile.

To modify device profiles, just edit them directly - they're located in a folder as per this thread: http://forum.conceiva.com/showthread.php/467-FAQ-Where-are-device-profiles-located - if you need any help, please let me know. Also, the server needs to be restarted to pick up the change in device profiles.

To make it short, Samsung C series are those who has Samsung App features (You can download widgets from the internet, e.g. Facebook, AccuWeather, Associated Press, Twitter, Youtube, etc)

http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies-archive.cfm/1316239.html << post 630 (There is an email from Samsung tech support that verify this). However this statement conflicts with your last post, where apparently ur LCD tv does not have Samsung Apps features in fact all products below LAxxC65xxx do not have these feature.
So again, i am lost...

Btw, can u give me clue on which part in the file that i should and should not modify?

Paul
06-16-2010, 12:56 PM
That's correct - our TV here doesn't have widgets (but it does have the Media Player).

With the device profile - basically you may want to add in more formats (audio/video/image containers/codecs as per FFmpeg information) or comment out, so that they'll be transcoded. If you can tell me what you wish to do, I'll be able to help you better.

Umm,

since when i played the same *.mkv file directly from my USB stick worked flawlessly, i might wanna try to let Mezzmo to only broadcast all of the *.mkv files to my telly, and then let it do all the decoding by itself.
I know there might be some differences with configuration on how the telly will handle streamed content via network with how it play *.mkv files through USB.

or perhaps you might know what i am trying to do here...

Paul

Well, the MKV is defined as follows (with encoding to MKV also turned on):

<avcontainer id="matroska" name="mkv" encode="1" mimetype="video/x-matroska" preferredtranscoded="1" dlnaprofile="MP3" supportschunked="0">

</video>
<video>

</format>
</audio>
<audio>
<format id="aac" encode="0" codec="aac" preferredtranscoded="0">
<channels>2</channels>
<channels>6</channels>
<maxbitrate>384000</maxbitrate>
<bitrate>192000</bitrate>
<maxsamplingrate>48000</maxsamplingrate>
<minsamplingrate>11025</minsamplingrate>
<samplingrate>48000</samplingrate>
<samplingrate>44100</samplingrate>
<samplingrate>32000</samplingrate>
</format>
</audio>
<audio>
<format id="dca" encode="0" codec="dca">

If you can give me your file's FFmpeg information, I can say whether it will be passed through the above or will need to be transcoded (or if the above needs to be modified to pass through your file if it doesn't already).

With encode="1", it means that this is a potential format to be transcoded to (which in turn needs additional information, such as bitrate, etc... for successful transcoding). "preferredtranscoded" is just to prioritize transcoding out of all potential targets.

i also modified my SamsungLA.prf (i am wondering why it's named SamsungLA yet there is another file SamsungB.prf). I also opened SamsungB.prf there is no tag (root child) for MKV. So i selected Samsung Profile C in the server configuration.

Originally it was meant to cover all Samsung TVs, but unfortunately it appears the A, B and C series all have slightly different functionality, so we now have all three device profiles here.

So, just to recap, if you use the "Samsung C" (SamsungLA) profile, the MKVs still don't play on the TV? Looking at FFmpeg information, that file should be passed through as native (unless you've tweaked some Advanced settings in the Device Settings dialog).

Yes that's right. My tv still doesn't want to play it. It's still being transcoded (i still have to wait for about 30 mins otherwise the movies will stuck and jump to the next one).

Before that, i also set everything back to default in the device profile manager. I did get a chance to go more into the transcoder setting.

I'll just try it once again later once i get back home.

Paul

Can you please check if you have any *.pro files in the DeviceProfiles folder (I assume that you do), and delete them if there are any (stop the server before that). After that, in Mezzmo, start the server, after your TV is picked up, go to Media Devices and assign Samsung C to it, then restart the server.

Also, it may help if you can send in log files of when you browse to and try to play an MKV file, that may give me a hint why they're not passed through natively.

No worries, we'll get it sorted on Monday then. Some video/audio combinations are not playable by the TV, so I assume it's one of those. Or the bitrate is off, or the dimensions.

Hi Dennis

I own a UA55C6900 (I suppose its firmware is very similar to the UA40C6900) and have just installed Mezzmo after trying a few different media players. Mezzmo seems stable and looks great but so far I had the following issues with it:

- I can not fast forward / backward AVI movies (only 10 sec increments)
- Portrait images that Mezzmo automatically rotates for me are squashed (when turning transcoding off the are not automatically rotated)

and one last question, I own two laptops and one TV can I use one licence for both laptops to connect to one TV?

Cheers

Hi Franz,

The FF/REW is unfortunately limited to that skipping function (by 10 seconds) - that's the TV doing it, not Mezzmo. Samsung even started to state in their user manuals that FF/REW does not work with DLNA, only skipping.

Which device profile are you using for it? And also, what are the dimensions of the original image that needs to be rotated?

Yes, you can use one license, as long as they are not running at the same time.

FranzStoffel
06-22-2010, 10:41 AM
Hi Dennis

Mezzmo picked the Samsung C profile automatically and it worked without changing settings.
The Picture dimensions are 3872 x 2592 (Nikon D80)

Samsungs own PC Share Manager 4.1 provides chapters with thumbnails of the movie that is playing and has a handy resume button.
I was hoping to get the same functionality from Mezzmo

P.S. I have worked out that pressing skip function once forwards by 10 seconds but f I keep the button pressed it will forward in 200 second increments eventually.
Chapters and Resume is not provided if I play files from my DLNA enabled NAS router so it must have something to do with the PC share manager.

Cheers
Franz

Hi Franz,

Can you please send one of your picture files to support (at) conceiva (dot) com so that I could try and reproduce your issue here?

Yes, the PC Share Manager provides some additional, proprietary information to the TV and the TV uses that to enable chapters and resume (bookmarking). Perhaps in a future version Mezzmo will emulate that as well (basically if lots of requests come in for this feature, it's likely to be given higher priority ;) ).

FranzStoffel

Hi Dennis

I have emailed a sample photo to your support.

Unfortunately until Mezzmo can provide support for chaptering / bookmarking I will have to stick to Samsung's slow and cumbersome PC Share Manager.

Thanks for your support!

I just bought a Samsung UE32C5100 with dlna support.
Connected on home LAN (wired).
Installled Samsung's PC Share Manager and could establish a connection from the TV.

I installed Mezzmo (trial) but am not able to connect to it from my tv.
I added the ip address and name of the tv in the Media Devices with Allow connect permissions but still can't seem to get it connected.

Can someone help ?

Thx

As a first step, can you please go to Media Server Settings dialog and check if the Firewall button is enabled or disabled - if it's enabled, please click it and see if that helps.

Also, try disabling your firewall, then restart Mezzmo server and see if it gets through or not.

If it's disabled or clicking it doesn't help, please send a message to support (at) conceiva (dot) com and we'll get you up and running.

Ok. Will try that tonight.
But with Samsung PC Share Manager it works right away. Without any changes to firewall settings.

Paul
08-09-2010, 03:15 PM
It's possible that it's something else, not the firewall of course. It may also help if you could turn on logging (see this thread: http://forum.conceiva.com/showthread.php/419-FAQ-How-to-turn-on-diagnostic-logging) then restart the server and let it run for a bit, then stop the server and send logs to support (at) conceiva (dot) com - we'll see if there's any conversation between the TV and Mezzmo.

I could browse through the content but viewing/playing something did not work.
Always got the same message saying Not Supported File Format ( for audio/video/photo )

Ok, we'll need to investigate why your firewall is preventing Mezzmo from working, but Mezzmo is not detecting it and fix it up.

Regarding playing - can you please turn on diagnostic logging (see this thread: http://forum.conceiva.com/showthread.php/419-FAQ-How-to-turn-on-diagnostic-logging), then try playing something, when it fails, stop the server and send the logs to support (at) conceiva (dot) com for further investigation?

I managed to configure my firewall by adding the port on which the server is running to the exceptions.

Denis,
I sent the logs as requested.

Appreciate your help
Thx

Thanks for letting me know - Mezzmo should've it opened it up, but perhaps failed to for some reason. I've received the logs as well and I'll get back to you via e-mail.

Hi Dennis, maybe you could help me with my Samsung UE32C6700 AllShare problem...
My TV is connected to the network via Samsung USB dongle wireless adapter. The Internet is working well, but the DLNA service (allShare application) doesen't work even with PC Share Manager from Samsung (version 4.2). I have win7 on pc (even this one conected via wireless to the network - Zyxel router) and firewall off.
On Samsung web site I discovered that my tv doesen't have support for allShare (no PCSM to download), but i understand that is a common issue, we need to download the software from another place...
The difference between PCSM and Mezzmo: PCSM automatically recognize the Samsung TV (but TV doesen't see the server...) ; Mezzmo see the TV after ~15 minutes from the moment when server was started, but the TV doesen't see the server... In Mezzmo Media Devices appear like "Unknown device" with IP addres, but no MAC address.
Other TV Sony KDL is working well (automatically recognized by Mezzmo).
It is strange that Internet is working on my TV but DLNA not! Could be a problem linked to the USB wireless dongle? Normaly, should work for both Internet and allShare ( http://www.samsung.com/au/consumer/tv-audio-video/television/accessories/WIS09ABGNX/XY/index.idx?pagetype=acc_detail&subsubtype=accessories )...
Could Mezzmo fix this?
Thanks!

We are not familiar with the Samsung USB wifi dongle, but my guess is that it could be one of the reasons for your problems. If it is possible, the ideal next step would be temporarily connect your Samsung TV to your Zyxel router with an ethernet cable. That would tell you if the USB dongle is the cause.

You mention your firewall is off. Make sure of this, or go to the Media Server Settings dialog in Mezzmo and click the Confgure Windows Firewall button if it is enabled. Also, check if you are running another security suite - that may have a firewall and be blocking MezzmoMediaServer.exe from accessing your home network or blocking ports that are required to communicate DLNA on your home network. The fact that your Sony KDL is working means that your computer is configured OK for Mezzmo, so I still guess it is the dongle. Perhaps it has passwords/keys you need to enter to access/configure it?

Thanks Paul for your answer, but today I spoked with someone from Samsung US, via chat (in Europe doesen't exist this kind of support...), and the answer was: "Samsung allShare application is working with USB wifi dongle, but only with Windows XP and Vista, is not supporting for the moment Windows 7!"... So I will try to instal WinXP with VMware to see how it is.
I will let you know about result.
Thanks again!

L.E.: even with winXP is not working, so for the moment USB wifi dongle could be used only for Internet application... not fair for Samsung!

Problem fixed by Samsung.de support! I moved USB wifi dongle from USB port 2 to port 1 on my TV and eveything is ok now. The strange thing is what is written near to USB port 1 : "HDD", so I was thinking that port is dedicated to mass storage devices...
Now I could enjoy Mezzmo without cables!
Thanks!

Great! And thanks for posting it here - maybe it'll help someone else in a similar situation as well.
