Xbox 360 video stream issues

hi all,

I was just hoping that someone on here could help me, i am having a few problems with Mezzmo and streaming to the Xbox 360.

The first is a problem with some files stuttering whilst streaming to the 360. For some files the video stream 'stutters', and/or plays extremely slowly. It is only some files that do this. Even when pre-transcoded it still stutters. Any help on this issue would be great, currently having to re-encode stuff is getting annoying.

The other problem i am having is for mkv files the is no time appearing on the xbox. When i push info on the xbox, it comes up as a length of 00:00:00, not matter how long the video is. This is annoying when i want to either fast forward or skip chapters.

Are you streaming over a LAN?

I too am having this problem. I am streaming over powerline adapters from my PC to two devices; my panasonic vierra television and my xbox 360.

Oddly enough, my panasonic vierra does not have any problems. no transcoding is required either. It takes the .mkv file without any problem and plays flawlessly.

The same .mkv is transcoded and played via the xbox which is when i see a slight studdering on some movies.

The stuttering on your videos when playing on your Xbox 360 could be due to a high bitrate in the original video or transcoded video. First thing to try is to go to the Media Devices dialog and edit your Xbox 360 device. Set the Connection combo box to your home network connection type (Ethernet, wireless, Powerline, etc.). This helps to tell Mezzmo server what is the maximum bitrate that your home network can handle. Then, go to the Transcoding tab and delete all transcoded files for this device. Try streaming now and see if it is better. (Check the Transcoding pane in Mezzmo if it is stuttering and if transcoding is too slow, then you may nee dto pre-transcode your file first before streaming it to your Xbox 360).

If no better, then go back to the Media Devices dialog and edit your Xbox 360 device. Go to the Performance tab and reduce the Video bitrate slider from Best quality to halfway. Then, go to the Transcoding tab and delete all transcoded files for this device. Try streaming now and see if it is better.

Your MKV will show 00:00:00 whenever Mezzmo server is transcoding your files on-the-fly for your Xbox 360. Your Xbox 360 cannot play MKV files, so Mezzmo server transcodes your MKV files to ASF/WMV. Whilst transcoding, your Xbox 360 does not show the correct duration (even though Mezzmo provides it to your Xbox, but your Xbox ignores it). After transcoding has completed, it will show the correct duration. A workaround for this is to pre-transcode the MKV for your Xbox 360 and then play it after pre-transcoding has completed. To pre-transcode a file, right-click on the file in Mezzmo and click 'Pre-transcode Files'. After the file has been fully transcoded, try streaming it again and you should see the correct duration.

I too, had a stuttering issue with certain videos that had alot of "reference points" in them on my Sony BluRay players when streaming from Mezzmo. What I mean by reference points is video that contained lots of individual dots in them. For an example of what I am talking about, there is a scene in the movie Prometheus where the android is viewing someone's dream and the dream sequence is made up of thousands of individual dots rather than a "movie" sequence. I did not have this issue when streaming to my Samsung Smart TV, nor have I had the issue with my Roku devices. Even when I transcoded the video it still happened.

Given that it ONLY happened on my BluRay players, I am chalking it up to processing power, or some other "glitch" in the way that the BluRay handles movie streams.
