Newbie here, Evaluating Mezzmo and close to purchasing it!

I'm sure this has been asked before but I can't seem to find a thread.

I have a folder (H:\Memories) that has almost 1200 really short videos my family has taken with various cellphones, video cams, etc.
I created a playlist under "Video" called "Family Movies".
I dragged H:\Memories into "Family Movies".
Mezzmo generated a list of titles and thumbnails just like it's supposed to. Unfortunately that list now clutters up other categories under the top level playlist "Video".

For example, the default playlist "Artist" now has five entries for different variations of my name, entries for six different cellphones I've used, five video cameras my family has used, and about twenty generated entries I don't recognize but which end up being part of this same collection. "Creator" managed to not get any of these entries, but "All Videos" now has an extra 1200 titles that we don't want to scroll through if we're looking for a movie.

So the question is, how can I add a folder of videos and have the contents excluded from all other playlists? I don't want to see the contents of this playlist (folder) show up anywhere else.

There's no way to exclude a folder of files from being included in smart playlists or active playlists. We'll consider this for a future version.

One workaround for now is to remove the offending attributes from the files in Mezzmo (note: Mezzmo doe snot touch your files, just the attributes stored in the Mezzmo database). For example, select a bunch of the short videos and right-click and click Properties. In the "Artist" edit box, put a space and then click OK. You have emptied out this Artist field for these files and they will not longer be included in the Artist playlist. Hopefully this works for you.

Your workaround sounds like it would do the trick for me, but I'm having trouble following directions.

I went into my playlist, then into the folder, then did CTRL-A to select everything. Then I did a right click for properties. Artist comes up as a drop down list with nothing selected. I clicked into the Artist field and typed " " then hit the delete key three times. Then I hit "OK". Then I did "Maintain Library" to see if it would update. The clips still showed up in "Artist". I opened the properties on one file and it had the artist name that was there originally. I'm sure I missed a step. Can you figure out what I did wrong? I don't want to have to set the Artist on each individual file.

I think you did everything correctly - except running Maintain Library after making your change (since running Maintain Library will put back metadata). You should not need to do this as the playlists are dynamically created and filled. After clicking OK on the Properties dialog, open the Properties dialog for a file and see if the change (empty artist) has been made.

The Maintain library didn't do the trick, but you still helped me resolve this. I once again selected everything in that folder and opened the properties. In the Artist field I typed "Family Stuff" and hit close. I had to sit and wait for about fifteen minutes while it updated all the files ( it said "Mezzmo not responding" in the title bar). Eventually it finished updating. Then I reselected everything and opened the properties again. This time it had "Family Stuff" in the artist field. I deleted "Family stuff and saved it again (another fifteen minute wait). When it finished I looked in the "Artist" playlist and the videos were gone. Yay!

It would be nice if I could get these clips to stop showing up in the "All Video Files" playlist also, but for now this will do. Thanks.

I'm glad you worked it out. We'll check why it took so long to apply those changes.
