View Full Version : Understanding the Transcoding behaviour

Hi,
I've been experimenting with creating Video files that can play on multiple devices and want to check that the behaviour I have seen is what you would expect.

The target devices are a Panasonic Viera 2011, Kindle HD (Bubble UPnP to MXPlayer), WD TV SMP.

Using Handbrake (2/12/2012) and a BluRay source file, I created an MKV file that contained multiple Audio tracks - DTS, AAC and AC3

If the DTS track is first, the Kindle HD causes Mezzmo to automatically transcode the audio to MP3. However if the DTS track is NOT first, the file is rendered without transcoding. The reason for wanting to put DTS first is to ensure that the Soundbar connected to the TV detects and plays the higher quality track. If the preferred track is non-DTS or I select 'Use original File' then the file is delivered and no transcoding is necessary

I was surprised that Mezzmo makes the decision on whether transcoding is required based solely on the 'Preferred Audio Channel'. If all tracks were examined and at least one track was compatible then transcoding could be avoided.

(perhaps this should have gone in the wishlist section....)

Hi Bodders,

Thanks for the feedback. We'll look into this and improve the audio / video channel detection & selection.
