Hi,
I enjoy watching movies without subs when they are in my language but whenever there is a conversation that takes place in another language, I would like the subs in my language to be present (English). Is Mezzmo capable of doing this? There is another streaming program that I use that already has this feature so I wanted to make sure that Mezzmo could do the same.

Thanks!

Hi TronixA87,

Mezzmo does support streaming your preferred subtitle languages. You can set your preferred subtitle languages globally for all your devices in the Options dialog (Subtitles page). And, you can set your preferred subtitle languages for each device in your home using the Media Devices dialog. Edit a device and go to the Subtitles tab in the Device Settings dialog.

Setting your preferred subtitle languages tells Mezzmo to locate and stream those languages to your device(s).

Tip: Mezzmo supports an ordered list of preferred subtitle languages (i.e. not just one preferred subtitle language) since you may prefer English as your primary language, but if there's no English, then you may also prefer (say) French since you are multi-lingual. Mezzmo will choose the subtitle languages based on the order of subtitle languages you have chosen.

Tip: Mezzmo also lets you stream different preferred subtitle languages to different devices in your home. For example, you may want English streamed to your main TV in your living room for you and your children's viewing, but may want (say) German streamed to your TV in your bedroom since German is your native language.

Hi Paul,
Thank you for the quick reply. I am mainly interested in just having the english subtitles appear when non-english dialog is spoken in a movie that has an english sound track. Let's say for example in the movie there is a scene in which two foreigners are speaking Russian. At the theatre (or even on a standard DVD player), you would see subtitles appear only when the individuals are speaking Russian. As soon as the scene within the movie cuts over to english language, you would no longer see subtitles. From what I have seen when simply selecting a normal english subtitle (not forced subs), if english subs are chosen, you will see the english subs throughout the entire movie regardless if english or a foreign language is spoken. This is not what I want. My question is if your software can be configured to utilize the forced subs if they are available because it would be a separate option from simply choosing english subtitles. Hope this makes sense!

Hi TronixA87,

Mezzmo (or any other media server) does not know when people are speaking (say) Russian in part a movie and speaking (say) English in another part of a movie.

If there is an associated external subtitle file or embedded subtitle channel and it matches the language you prefer, then Mezzmo will stream it to your device. On your device, you may also have subtitle settings where you can turn them on/off. But I do not know of any media server or media player that has selective subtitle display when people are talking in a certain language in a movie.

Is there a way to get Mezzmo to recognize and stream only subtitle streams that are marked as "Forced" when streaming via web access?

Possibly you could try setting the preferred subtitle language to forced but this may not work as there is some transformation of the language name between two letter codes and three letter codes so this might prevent this from working.
