Computer is AMD PhenomII 955 quad core 16gb ram hard wired network my switches that connect my homes computers and tv's are all 10/100/1000. I have 2 WD Live boxes that dont stutter at all with movies playing on both and purchased Mezzmo so as to not have to buy another WD Live Box and with nothing playing the movie stutters on my Bravia KDL-55NX810 please help I have 4 other TV's.

Hi mikeg,

When you play a movie on your Sony Bravia TV and it starts to stutter, go back to Mezzmo on your PC and check the Transcoding tab. Check if your video is listed there and is marked red. If it is, then transcoding on-the-fly is not fast enough for real time playback. One solution is to pre-transcode the video before playing it (see http://forum.conceiva.com/showthread.php/6025-Tutorial-Pre-transcoding-Files).

Let us know the device profile that is assigned to your TV in Mezzmo. Go to the Media Devices dialog to see this.

Also, post the FFmpeg information for the video that stuttered. Right-click on the video in Mezzmo and click 'Get FFmpeg Information'.

I checked the transcoding tab when i was creating the log file you looked at and although it was stuttering it was NOT marked red?

Device profile is Sony Bravia KDL (2011 models)

Understand. Try pre-transcoding the video. After it completes transcoding, try playing it and see if it plays smoothly.

Ok Paul so I upgraded processor and motherboard (it was due for an upgrade) I now have an 8 core 3.5 ghz Amd 8320 unlocked black edition and it still is hit and miss with some movies, I have one that transcoded at 850 fps and the playback has a bunch of blocks in it but when I play it on the same tv with my WD Live no problems clear as a bell? I looked to see CPU usage and it was only around 10%?

Paul
06-10-2013, 11:36 AM
Hi mikeg,

The 850 fps tells us that Mezzmo was remuxing the video. Just to explain - a video file (e.g. movie.MKV) is made of the video file container (e.g. MKV matroska) and inside the video file container are various video channels (e.g. H264, MPEG-2, MPEG-4), audio channels (e.g. DTS, AC3, AAC) and subtitle channels (SRT, SUB, ASS). When Mezzmo has to transcode a video to another format, it will prefer to copy (or remux) the video or audio channels into the new file container since this is very fast (as compared to converting to another format). So, in your case, your Sony TV cannot play MKV files and Mezzmo remuxed the video and audio channels into a compatible file container, such as MPEG-TS. The fact that your WD TV Live can play the video well but your Sony TV cannot shows that they both have different firmware that read and play videos differently. For the video that is 'blocky', try pre-transcoding it - but make sure you select the 'Force full transcode' checkbox to stop any remuxing. For details on pre-transcoding, see http://forum.conceiva.com/showthread.php/6025-Tutorial-Pre-transcoding-Files.

Understood, I will try that. Next question my TV is a 2011 and with the KDL 2011 profile no Avi files show up in the list on TV they are in the library.

Ok so the full force sort of works there are no blocks....BUT it cut the size of the picture on screen almost in half? Unacceptable, this is frustrating LOL Besides the fact it coded slow. Don't think I like the idea of picking a movie to watch then having to wait 40 minutes to watch it. What about the avi files not showing up on the KDL 2011 profile?

Paul

What about the avi files not showing up on the KDL 2011 profile?

We can investigate this. Turn on logging (see http://forum.conceiva.com/showthread.php/419-FAQ-How-to-turn-on-diagnostic-logging) and restart your Mezzmo server. Set the device profile to 'Sony Bravia KDL (2011 models)' and try to stream your AVI files. When it fails, stop your Mezzmo server and exit Mezzmo. Zip up all the logs and email them to us at support [at] conceiva [dot] com.

Ok so after a lot of experimenting it seems even though my Bravia KDL-55NX810 has a manufacture date of 2011 I have a wider range of success with the KDL 2012 profile. However, MP4 files do not appear as a choice in the video folder on TV. They are in my library. BTW I have no problems with 2 Samsung TV's a LN46C630 and a LN40C630 the play EVERYTHING most don't even seem to transcode. Sorry to be a pain Paul.

Another option is to change the container that you use for your videos to something supported natively by your Sony. This is one of the reasons I standardized on the m2ts container instead of mkv. I've yet to find a device which doesn't support the m2ts container. Now the underlying audio formats is a different story. More on that in the audio thread :)

mikeg
06-11-2013, 08:11 AM
Thanks for the suggestion jbinkley60. The m2ts container is by the sound of it a good idea going forward...however I have approx 550 movies that are mkv, converting one now to get an idea of size difference. Converting a 16gig movie, time remaining 1hr 40 minutes ooooggggaaaaa thats a lot of time to start converting 550 of them. MOST are half that size though, still a lot of time involved. Unless you know a real fast converter? Truth is I really don't want to have to do that. The idea here for me is to avoid having to purchase 2 more WD Live boxes for the other sets in my house if I can get it done with a $30us software Media Server. Stand alone the WD Live boxes play virtually everything I throw at it BUT they get pricey. I'm getting close here with mezzmo still need to know why my mp4 files are not in the list? Waiting for Paul I guess even he needs to sleep!

Hi mikeg,

Post the FFmpeg information for one of the MP4 files that does not get listed using the Sony Bravia KDL (2012 models) device profile.

Hi Paul,

P.S even though it doesn't show up I tried to transcode and it said nothing to decode format is supported on the device. Here is the FFmpeg info for the MP4.

Hi mikeg,

Sorry for the delay. The "Sony Bravia KDL (2011 Models)" and "Sony Bravia KDL (2012 Models)" device profiles will both list and deliver the above MP4 file natively to your TV. Does the MP4 get listed with the "Sony Bravia KDL (2011 Models)" device profile? Please turn on logging and we'll see if there's something else that's causing the problem. Turn on logging (http://forum.conceiva.com/showthread.php/419-FAQ-How-to-turn-on-diagnostic-logging) and restart your Mezzmo server. Connect to Mezzmo server from your TV and list the MP4 files. When they don't get listed, stop your Mezzmo server and exit Mezzmo. Zip up all the logs and email them to us at support [at] conceiva [dot] com.

ok the Sony Bravia KDL (2011 Models) and Sony Bravia KDL (2012 Models) do not show the MP4 files the 2010 one does though I sent the log files Paul

Thanks

OK - understand better now. Your TV model must not support playing MP4 natively since both the "Sony Bravia KDL (2011 Models)" and "Sony Bravia KDL (2012 Models)" device profiles deliver your MP4 files natively to your TV (and your TV refuses to list them), whereas the "Sony Bravia KDL (2010 Models)" device profile transcodes your MP4 files to another format (and your TV does list them). How does the "Sony Bravia KDL (2010 Models)" device profile perform with your other files? If it performs OK, then I suggest you stay with this device profile.
