Hello,

Can I safely delete the temp files that are acreated after a movie is transcoded?
I keep my library but those temp files are taking double and more of my storage needs.
Right now I have the .mp4 or whatever format file plus the temp file created by transcoding so it's like I have to keep two copies of the same movie file.

Thank you,

Paul

It is safe to delete your transcoded files. It will only mean that Mezzmo will re-transcode the file again the next time you play it on a device that requires transcoding.

You can delete transcoded files in several ways - (i) delete them all using the Transcoding Settings dialog, or (ii) delete those just for a specific device by editing the device in the Media Devices dialog and going to the Trancoding tab in the Device Settings dialog, or (iii) delete just those for a specific file by displaying the Properties dialog for a file and going to the Transcoding tab.

The best way to manage the storage size of all these transcoded files is to set the maximum size in the Transcoding Settings dialog in Mezzmo. The default value is 120GB. Set the maximum size for the transcoding folder and Mezzmo will remove older transcoded files automatically for you whenever the limit is reached to keep the set of transcoded files within the maximum size you have specified.

Hi Paul,

Does that mean as long as the files are played on the same device (my TV), Mezzmo will not transcode them again after I delete them?
This could save a lot of disk space, practically as much as the movie files themselves occupy.

Thank you,

Paul

When you play a video on your TV that is not compatible with your TV, Mezzmo will transcode the video so it can be played on your TV and store the transcoded file in your transcoding folder. If you delete the transcoding files and never play that video again, then Mezzmo will not create the transcoded file again. It will only create it again when you try to play it again on your TV. Hope that makes sense.

Since that file is the transcoded movie could we not just rename it and add it to our library?

Yes, you can. The best way to do this is to right-click on the video in Mezzmo and click "Properties". In the Properties dialog, go to the Transcoding tab and you will see all the transcoded files for this video. Select one and click "Save As..." to save it into a folder on your computer. You can add this file into your Mezzmo library.
