View Full Version : Mezzmo Running my Computer Crazy?

I recently bought the paid version of this software because many times my WD Live Console was not picking up Serviio, but it was always picking up Mezzmo. (although it would not work becausue the trial version had ended, so I forked over the money after going through 2-3 trials)

But now when I used Mezzmo, two things:

1) Mezzmo makes my computer run or clock at 100%. I can here my computer fan from the next room. Sounds like it's going to blow up. When I try to use the computer for anything, it can barely run due to the resources required to run Mezzmo.

2) Even running that fast, Mezzmo isn't operating as fast as Serviio.

So basically I'm wondering if there is some setting I should check in order for Mezzmo to stop being such a power drag on the computer and respond quicker.

Mezzmo should not be running your computer so hard, so we'd certainly like to fix this. It's best we see a set of logs and we'll know what is happening. Turn on logging (see http://forum.conceiva.com/showthread.php/419-FAQ-How-to-turn-on-diagnostic-logging) and stop your Mezzmo server and exit Mezzmo application. Then, run Mezzmo again and start your Mezzmo server. Use Mezzmo as normal, and when you notice your computer is running too hard, stop your Mezzmo server and exit Mezzmo. Zip up all the logs and email them to us at support [at] conceiva [dot] com.

What are your computers specs out of curiosity?

I went through the instructions as you said and when I started my WDLive this time, wouldn't you know it, it doesn't make it run fast and the response time is better. So I'm OK for now.

But just for further clarification, I understand how to do everything but "zip up files". I know what 7-Zip and WinRAR is but can you give a brief instruction on how to zip up those three folders using one of those. Can I do it with WinRAR free? Surely I don't have to buy one of those programs to send you a file.

Glad you are up and running now. You laptop will be fine for using Mezzmo.

For zipping up (compressing) folders & files, you can use Windows to do this. Using Windows Explorer, select the files/folders you want to zip up and right-click on them and click "Send To" -> "Compressed (zipped) Folder". This will create a ZIP file containing the files and folders you have selected.

So here I am back with this. I was using Mezzmo today and thought everything was fine. Later on I walk into my bedroom and the computer is running at full speed again.

Here's what I can tell you: The name of the file that is running so hard is ffmpeg.exe., according to task manager. The location of this file is in the Mezzmo folder. So this is definitely Mezzmo. All I could do is end task to get it to shut down.

Since I didn't know this was going on since I was in the next room and not running your zip file thing, I don't have the zip file you are requesting. I might use Mezzmo again later, and this may not happen. So.......do you have any idea why this ffmpeg file is reacting this way?

FFmpeg.exe is used by Mezzmo to transcode any of your incompatible audio and video files so they can be played on your devices. When you browse and play a music or video file from Mezzmo on your DLNA devices in your home and that music or video file cannot be played natively on your device, then Mezzmo will launch FFmpeg.exe and transcoding will begin. When transcoding has completed, FFmpeg.exe will be closed.

So do I need to be concerned that it appears to take so much of my computer resources to run? I'm just not used to seeing or hearing a computer run at such a high capacity. Is this OK for running like this for 90 minutes at a time?

Transcoding a HD 1080 movie from one format to another format so it can be played on your DLNA device may take 90 minutes or so depending on performance of your computer (i.e. CPU and memory). You can manage this by pre-transcoding your incompatible videos before streaming them (for example, schedule this to be done at 2:00AM at night) so you don't have excessive CPU usage while streaming. See the FAQ about pre-transcoding - http://forum.conceiva.com/showthread.php/6025-Tutorial-Pre-transcoding-Files

Paul,

I need to revisit this. Is there a way to make Mezzmo not play a file on my WD Live if it needs to be transcoded? What I'm saying is I hate nothing more than playing a file and then an hour or two later, come back into my bedroom (where my computer is), and find it running 100%. I would prefer Mezzmo just not play it at all, and then I would transcode it later.

Hi Blazin,

You can turn off transcoding for your WD TV Live in Mezzmo. Go to the Media Devices dialog and edit your WD TV Live device. In the Device Settings dialog, go to the Transcoding tab and turn off transcoding. Now all files will be delivered in their native form to your WD TV Live without any transcoding.

Hello... I have the same computer as Blazin65 (Sony touchscreen All-in-One, Windows 8, 6 GB RAM, i5, 2.6 GHZ) and when I use mezzmo in windows 8, it's like lock my services when I close mezzmo. Only way to get system restarted is shutting down through the button. If I try restart or shutdown it freezes. Some one had the same issue???

Hi Toledo,

If you send us a set of logs, then we can see what is happening. Turn on logging in Mezzmo (see http://forum.conceiva.com/showthread.php/419-FAQ-How-to-turn-on-diagnostic-logging). Stop your Mezzmo server and exit Mezzmo application using File/Exit menu item. Run Mezzmo again and start your Mezzmo server. Reproduce the problem where you computer locks up when using Mezzmo. After you have reproduced the problem, stop your Mezzmo server and exit Mezzmo. Zip up all the logs and email them to us at support [at] conceiva [dot] com.
