Freeze ups with 3.3

Hi,

Just installed 3.3 and MKV files start to freeze up after 2-3 min of play on my Oppo BDP-93. Tried repairing and uninstalling + fresh install but it's still not working.

I'm running ethernet connection from PC (Win XP 32 SP3) on a Quad 9550 (2.83GHz) with 4gb RAM (3.2 useable) 500gb hard drive is about 3/4 full

Check if Mezzmo is transcoding your video. Go to the Transcoding pane in Mezzmo when the MKV is streaming to your Oppo. If you see it there and it is listed as red, then the transcoding speed is too slow for real time playback. The workaround for this is to pre-transcode your video before streaming and this will stop any of the stuttering issues you are experiencing.

Also, check the device profile you have assigned to your Oppo in the Media Devices dialog in Mezzmo. It should be one of the Oppo BDP device profiles. You can also try the other Oppo device profiles and see if they are better. Let us know how you go.

I tried pre-transcoding the file and it appears to be working. I let it transcode a bit and then began watching the file (even with CPU priority set to "very high" transcoding is excruciatingly slow)

Transcoding is at about 25% and I'm about 15 min into a 45 min clip without any stuttering.

What bothers me is that when I first started using Mezzmo I never had any such problems. It seems things are getting worse with each update. A couple of updates ago I started having problems FFing certain types of files. If I tried to go faster than 2X the stream would stop and jump to next file. I learned to live with this minor(?) inconvenience.

With this latest update I was hoping for a fix to the existing problems. Instead it appears things have gotten worse again and I now need to wait... for files to be pre-transcoded.

I'm under the impression that each update is demanding more CPU horsepower than the previous one. I have a feeling I'll be upgrading my PC soon.

Changes over each Mezzmo version that may affect whether transcoding takes place or not are typically device profile changes. If you know what video files used to work well for you but now requite pre-transcoding in Mezzmo v3.3, then we can determine what has changed for the worse for you. We'll need to know the device profile you are using and the the FFmpeg information of the video files. Right-click on the video in Mezzmo and click 'Get FFmpeg Information'.

I thought the problem was solved but halfway through the video, it stopped, and a message said "player does not support file type". Then it jumped to next file.#$@%&*?

I sent you the FFmpeg info by email. Not sure what device profile info you need. Device profile shows three items: Mezzmo and Oppo BDP(twice) but with different IP addresses.

Edit: I just noticed in the drop down menu there is also Oppo BDP LPCM and Oppo BDP NTSC

Sorry if my posts are a bit confusing. I'll recapitulate...

Originally I was using Oppo BDP profile. I transcoded all files under that profile. It appeared to be working but then, as I mentioned, it stopped halfway through.

I just switched to Oppo BDP LPCM profile. Tried it without transcoding and got stuttering and the message in red that says transcoding too slow...

I seem to recall that there was a time, a while back' when I was using the LPCM profile successfully so I just deleted the other device profiles and will try transcoding the file under this profile instead.

I wish I could get back to the good old "no pre-transcoding, 5X FF" days that made me love my Oppo and Mezzmo so much.

Do you remember what version of Mezzmo worked well for you? We can look at the differences between this version and the current version to determine what has changed for the worse in your case.

The version just before the current one would allow me to watch similar MKV files without pre-transcoding but FF was limited to 2X. If I tried to go any faster I would get booted to next file.
There was a time when I could FF 5X but I can't remember what version that was.

If my memory is correct - in the beginning I was unable to watch XVID files. Eventually there was an update that fixed that problem but then the FF problems began.
