View Full Version : Random Disconnects

Hi,

Over the past week or so I have been getting random disconnects, most days I have no issues, but then suddenly I get the dreaded disconnect message on my Samsung

I was trying to watch a film last night and got the dropouts about every 5 minutes or so (restart server, tv, laptop, then try again and works for a bit)
Chances are after it failing last night, it will work fine now for a few days with no issues

I had been using the Samsung BDP 3D profile (I have the BD-E6100 which is a 3D player), has this profile changed with the latest update?
Currently testing the Samsung BDP profile to see if this is any better

This could be something on my LapTop causing it, but I checked the event viewer and nothing stood out, nothing has changed on my LapTop recently, that I know of

I have searched the forum and read many threads on this issue, but couldn't find a solution, all my devices are on WiFi, it's not possible for me to wire them up directly

Anyone got any suggestions on what I might check out?

Thanks

Paul

Samsung devices are often prone to disconnect while streaming under certain conditions. We've found a few things can cause this:

Your router can often be the cause. Reboot it and see if this helps. Also, go into your router's settings and turn off your router's built-in UPnP.
By default, Mezzmo server re-advertises itself on your home network every 30 minutes or so (as per the DLNA/UPnP guidelines) so that devices know about Mezzmo server being available for streaming. Some users have found this can cause disconnects while streaming on their Samsung devices. Try changing Mezzmo's advertisement interval to 24 hours and see how this goes. See this FAQ to do this: http://forum.conceiva.com/showthread.php/6245-FAQ-Change-the-default-SSDP-advertisement-interval

If the problem persists, let us know & we'll help further.

Thanks for response

With the UPnP, I seem to recall that turning this off prevented xboxs from communicating with the xbox live service, is this anything you know about (EDIT: Think I might be confused with the NAT options, think this is what xbox needs to be on)

Will try your suggestions today and see how it goes, although I only see the problem once a week (sometimes twice) apart from that everything is perfect, so could be a while before I know any changes have resolved it

another quick question, are other devices better, if I used my xbox for streaming would this eliminate the dropout issue?

OK - let us know how it goes.

Based on user feedback, the Samsung family of devices seem to have these type of disconnect problems more than other brands. We have not had any users report disconnect problems with their Xbox 360s.

I made a change on my laptop first yesterday, I turned off the option that allows windows to disable the wifi connection (wondering if pc is going into low power after so many minutes and doing something)

I tried turning off UPnp on the router, I then streamed 2 movies without any issue
Turned UPnp back on and watched for about 2 hours last night, again with no issues

going to try your above on the advertisement set to 24 hours next time it happens

Not sure if this is relevant or not, but I also see my standard windows DLNA server on my TV also (WMP?), when I get the disconnect, this also disappears from my TV, looking as though it might be the laptop dropping out (power saving option for wifi adaptor?)

Hi Paul,

Good troubleshooting. The fact that both Mezzmo and WMP disappear from your TV's media server list does suggest something on your PC or home network is stopping/interfering with DLNA communication. It could be your Laptop's wifi power saving. Let us know what you find is the cause. Contact us if you need help.

If you are streaming using a laptop, don't think it has enough power to self-power a wireless internet card, an external or internal modem, and an on-board NIC. It doesn't. Throw in an external USB drive and you really have power problems. The deal is to go to Staples and get a $20 powered usb hub as in with an ac adapter. This will really help and do miracles with random disconnects. Power your devices through it and you will see better results when it comes to streaming. Turn off or disable everything you can on your NIC regarding offsets and flow control and speed and you will see better results. Also, don't count on your antivirus or spyware software. Occasionally, scan your pc with three or four other good packages out there. You would be surprised how many things are on your pc drive and in your registry and in your processes. With these gone, your laptop is good to go. I had almost two years of random disconnects with a Samsung TV and a laptop. It drove me wild to have to use the wireless connection, which worked fine, but not the wired one. It took me two years to figure out all the above and also don't forget to uncheck Ipv6 in your network cards' settings under properties. It is not necessary in Win 7 for Conceiva. It was a real pain figuring all this out but now I can stream to three tv's and and ipad and a iphone all at once. The Samsung TV (a smart tv) was a big issue but no more baby! It works...
