View Full Version : Plays for 30 seconds then stops

I am streaming to a Samsung C 40" LCD TV; plays fine when server first started.

However, after 1 day (haven't determined exact time yet...), it will play a video file for approximentally 30 seconds, then it goes back to the file browser.

If I go to server; stop media server than restart - works perfect (until the next day).

Any thoughts?

Have you updated to the current version 2.1.9 yet? That seems to have that problem fixed..

I have a similar problem on a Samsung C tv.. actually it's a bit worse.. it plays for 3 secs then stops. Even after a restart of the server does not help, nor a reboot. This only happens on version 2.1.9..
I have reverted to 2.1.8 and the problem does not happen..

Please make sure you are running the latest version (2.1.9.0) and you are using the Samsung C device profile (check it using the Media Devices dialog in Mezzmo).

When it stops after 30 sec, if you try to play the same file again, does it play for longer, or just for the same 30 sec period again?

If the problem persists, we would like to see a log for this problem. Can you please turn on logging (see this thread: http://forum.conceiva.com/showthread.php/419-FAQ-How-to-turn-on-diagnostic-logging ), then try to connect & play the file again. After that, please stop the server and send in the logs for further investigation to support [at] conceiva [dot] com.

When using the version 2.1.9.0 it always plays for 3 secs and it is using the C devide profile.
If I have time tonight i'll upgrade to 2.1.9.0 and send you guys the logs.

I confirmed last night that the latest version 2.1.9 didn't fix the problem.

And the video files don't stop at the same spot everytime. The video freezes for about 5 seconds; then it goes back to the browser screen; so the TV isn't losing connect to the server. I can reselect the video, it'll play for a bit...then freeze again.

The TV is hard wired to my network; so shouldn't be a connection issue.

I can turn on logging; but the problem seems to happen after a day or so; so the log file could be huge...I will turn on and test.

Thanks.

Im having the same problem with some files to. I have an MKV file that played fine before, but now after 30 seconds, it goes back to the file browser.

Can you please try this?

After playing the file and it stops after 30 seconds or so, please wait for a few minutes. Don't play any other file during this time - just wait. After the 5 minutes, try playing the file again. Does it play for longer this time?

This waiting does not work. I also tried pausing it. That also didnt work.
It used to play fine. On my pc itself it also works good. Only in Mezzmo it stops after about 30 seconds: Its this 3d mkv file:

32 Mbits is a pretty high bitrate for streaming. A typical 100 Mbits network can achieve around 70 Mbits of throughput (there is a good bit of networking overhead involved, and I'm not sure how much overhead DLNA itself adds).

While streaming, press Ctrl-Alt-Delete, and start the Task Manager. Go to the Networking tab, and check what happens there during streaming. Is the speed constant? What percentage of the network is used (and what speed is your network)?

Hi RMerlin,

I dont think this is the problem. In version 2.1.8 it worked smoothly. Also im connected wired directly.

Just a thought: maybe 2.1.8 was transcoding it to a lower bitrate, while the 2.1.9 profile is trying to stream it, and failing (could be as much the network as the TV's fault if it has issues with such high bitrates when streamed). That's just a theory however.

I'm experiencing something similar. In my case it seems like the connection lost problems fixed in 2.1.8 is back. I'm using 2.1.9.0 Samsung C profile with a Samsung LE40C658 with the last firmware. Mezzmo installed on a Windows XP SP2. Network consists of a Netgear 1GE switch, D-Link 655 router and a Dlink 10/100 switch. PC is connected to the 1GE switch and Samsung on the 10/100 switch. Switches both connected to the Gig switch, TV to the 10/100.

The two mkv files I have problem with are these:

When streaming the first of them the network utilization on the PC is less then 2.5% (that is less then 25mb/s). It in average around 0.65%

I switched on logging tonight after reading the forum but typically restarting the server exe and mezzmo.exe look like it helped. I will let mezzmo run on my PC and see if the problems come back. Before the restart both those mkv files haled at least 3 times within 20min. I'll get back if I get a log of the problem.

Note: I have not added anything the library after the restart. If not letting the server run on idle all night and during the day tomorrow will give me the problem back, I'll add a bunch of files to the library and see if that induce the problem.

Is there anywhere I can download 2.1.8 in case finding and fixing this problem takes a while?

We're hoping to get a fix for this issue very soon. Thanks for your patience.

If you cannot wait, you can download the previous version - Mezzmo v2.1.8.0 - from http://www.conceiva.com/downloads/mezzmo-setup-2180.exe

Have downloaded 2.1.8.0. Now how do I downgrade without losing my library since the installer insists that it have to uninstall 2.1.9.0 before being able to install 2.1.8.0. Is there a backup or export/import function I can use?

Edit: Missed the checkbox asking if I want to delete the library or keep it.
Will test 2.1.8.0 and see if this helps.

Looks like 2.1.8.0 works. I have not had any broken streaming so far. I have tried both direct streaming of mkv files to the Samsung and transcoding to the PS3.
I have not successfully managed to stream to the Samsung with .str files but I guess this has nothing to do with this topic.
I'll try to do another test tonight just to be sure that the problem is gone.

Thanks for the feedback. We think we have identified the reason for the MKV/H264/etc. problems and expect to release an update by the end of this week. Thanks for your patience.

As mentioned in an earlier post, if you cannot wait, you can download the previous version - Mezzmo v2.1.8.0 - from http://www.conceiva.com/downloads/mezzmo-setup-2180.exe

When uninstalling v2.1.9.0, make sure you select the checkbox to keep your Mezzmo library in the uninstaller.

I'm sorry to report I got the "30 sec play and then stop" back even in 2.1.8. It happens primarily with mkv but I had a an AVI doing the same. I have no log but I the PC have not been running for that long since last reboot. This is what I have done:
1. Start PC and let it run for a couple of hours.
2. Add a library of videos
3. Started watching a mkv from another library that was already there.

Stopping and starting the Mezzmo media server from within the gui removed the problem.

One thing I noticed was that the CPU fan was running much harder from the moment I started watching the mkv all the time until I restarted the server. The PC behaved just like Mezzmo played the file with transcode even after I stopped playing the file.
After the server restart the cpu fan was about the same speed as idle when playing the file. As I mentioned the video played fine as well.
I of course forgot to check the actual cpu load before the server restart.

I know this is all very vague. I'll try to do a better investigation in case this pop up again.

When can we expect the promised update to 2.1.9.0?

Paul

Actually 2.1.9 has already been released for a while now. We're working on preparing 2.1.10 :)

If you can send in your logs that would help understand the issue (but upgrade to 2.1.9 first and see if that resolves the issues you're having).

Dennis if you had backlogged the topic one page before answering you had seen I was recommenced by Paul@Concieva to downgrade from 2.1.9.0 to 2.1.8.0 to fix this problem.

The symptoms looks the same but I have a hunch they are triggered by different things. With 2.1.9.0 I at least had problems with mkv streaming to my Samsung C658 even with a freshly restarted media server.
I have had 2.1.8.0 running for days and no problems until I added some more media to the library yesterday.

Sorry but logging of the service was not running when this happened. I discovered it grew very fast so I decided to switch it off. Can't replicate the problem though I tried.
I would have attached the Mezzmo.exe log if the limit on attachment size of txt or zip files had not been so limited. The zip with the log is only 188kB..... Like to mail it to you?

Paul

Sorry, I didn't read that you actually downgraded. I would suggest that you go back to 2.1.9, then send us an e-mail to support and I'll send you a patched 2.1.9.x instead of going back (and 2.1.8 doesn't seem to work properly in any case, right?). After that we can start digging deeper into the issue and I'm sure we'll solve it (if the patch/updated device profile doesn't make it work straight away).

And yes, please send in the logs as well (via e-mail)

Is there actually a patched 2.19 version that fixes this? I recently got linked to patch21913 to resolve the playback of mp4 on my Samsung B750, but I still have the same issue with videos stopping until I restart the service. Appears to be MKV-related.

Paul
09-23-2010, 08:53 AM
There have been a bunch of improvements since 2.1.9.13, but with the official update so close and with so many changes, I cannot send a new patch out unfortunately - there's too much to update, not only the server/profile. Hopefully the release will be within the next couple of days, and we'll proceed from there. Appreciate your patience!

Anyone else that still has symptoms like this with 2.1.10.0? My problems start when the mediaserver have been running for several hours. Problem goes away for hours if I restart the service.
I have an open case with Concieva about this. I'm just curious if others have the same problem

Hi,

Just downloaded the Mezzmo 2.1.11.0 trial version. Thought of testing this before buying it.
Currently I'm running this software on Windows 7 Ultimate - 64 Bits. Both PC and my HDTV-LED Samsung 46C6200 is connected via WIFI 300mb/s
I have tried to watch any shows with it, but it stops at every about 5minutes and 30 seconds. I have tried 5 different shows, MKV, AVI and WMV. Why is that?
Furthermore some MKV I have, has Subtitle embedded, and it can't show the subtitle. Any clues on this?

Hope you could answer this.... thanks.

Paul

Hi,

Most probably those files are being transcoded and the speed of transcoding is not fast enough for smooth playback. Did you adjust the network type in device properties dialog by any chance? If you have, I'd recommend changing it back to the default, because any changes in there can lead to transcoding even if the files can be played over your connection.

As far as I know, Samsung TVs don't support embedded subtitles and that's why they're not coming up. The next major update of Mezzmo will include support to rip out and re-burn the subtitles onto the video (or serve as external subtitles), so that will enable subtitles for those files.
