View Full Version : Pre-Transcoding Issue

I have a lot of large avi files that I pre-transcode so they are instantly available for viewing on my Panasonic LED TV. Just recently two issues have come to focus my attention that Mezzo is broken somewhere since recent updates have been loaded on my Window XP Professional Desktop system.

1.) Mezzmo will now allow me to pre-transcode avi files as well as mp4 (the ones I use) even though they were previously pre-transcoded. On earlier versions, Mezzmo notified me of files that were already pre-transcoded. Avi files pre-transcode at a very slow rate approximately 6 fps on a good day. This means it can take more than 1 hour to pre-transcode a 1 hour long avi file. Mp4 files pre-transcode around 10 times faster. (Would love to learn of a way to speed up the pre-transcoding of avi files)

2) With Mezzmo running, I have had my computer totally lock up whilst surfing the internet on two occasions. No BSOD or anything like that - just everything freezes on the desktop - no mouse - HDD activity light ceases to flash. Only way to get out of the mess is to hit the computer reset button or press and hold down the Power on/off button to turn off the PC. I have never had this happening before. Both times it happened with the latest version of Mezzmo active. As I use a RAID-1 configuration for my HDDs, my concern is corruption on the HDDs should they get out of sync during the freeze-up. So far there have been no dramas there. The system boots up cleanly with the RAID drives intact.

I would appreciate any feedback on these issues.

Hi Mikem,

1) What device profile are you using with your TV? Go to the Media Devices dialog to see this. Also, what Viera TV model do you have? Finally, post the FFmpeg information for an AVI that takes a long time. Right-click on the AVI in Mezzmo and click 'Get FFmpeg Information'.

2) We'd like to see a set of logs when your computer locks up. To do this, turn on logging (see http://forum.conceiva.com/showthread.php/419-FAQ-How-to-turn-on-diagnostic-logging) and restart your Mezzmo server. Exit Mezzmo application using File/Exit menu item and start it again. Now, reproduce the situation where locks up. When it does, reboot as you normally have to. Then zip up all the logs and email them to us at support [at] conceiva [dot] com.

Hi Paul

The device profile I am using is the Panasonic Viera (2011 models). The TV model is TH-L32X30A.

I am somewhat reluctant to put myself in the position of locking up my PC again. I know this doesn't help the situation, but I have hundreds of GB of data that I don't wish to have to spend hours on recovering should damage occur to my files and filesystem when the PC locks up. Have any other users experienced this problem?

Here is the FFmpeg info you requested. For privacy reasons, I have edited out info that may identify certain individuals appearing in the avi recording.

I'll turn logging on though if that will help with explaining why Mezzmo no longer keeps track of pre-transcoded files and lets me pre-transcode them again.

Understand - turn on logging and restart your Mezzmo server and Mezzmo application. If any of the problems re-occur, then stop your Mezzmo server and exit Mezzmo. Zip up all the logs and email them to us at support [at] conceiva [dot] com.
