View Full Version : Playing files without a network (purely local)

I know Mezzmo is designed to be a streaming service, so this is not what it was designed for, but wondering if there is anyone around this (extra software?)

I have all my media stored on my Laptop and would like to utilize Mezzmo when I am away from home (no network)

Currently I can play all my media in WMP or the new Metro apps in Windows 8, however this does not update any of the fields in the Mezzmo database

Is there anyway I can play my media locally and have it update the play counts and last played date when not connected to any network?

I assume this is not possible but thought I would ask in case someone has found any workaround for this

Hi Paul,

Interesting idea. It's not possible at the moment, but a keen developer may be able an app (or media player plug-in?) that increments the play count and last played date columns for the files you play in the Mezzmo database. Our Mezzmo database files are using sqlite.

Another idea is to use WMP, XBMC or another DLNA-enabled media player on your computer to play your files on your computer via DLNA streaming form the Mezzmo server based on the same computer. So instead of playing the files directly from disk in WMP, XBMC, etc., you connect to Mezzmo server form WMP, XBMC, etc. and play them via DLNA streaming. This would increment the play count, last played date, etc. since you would be streaming them from Mezzmo server.

Thanks for the reply

unfortunately WMP etc do not see Mezzmo if there is no network connection, they only show the local files

A possible way of doing it, not sure if it would have any negative effects

Mezzmo app works fine without any network, so I can run it and browse my media
I can right click a movie without network and select play (for me this opens it up in the new Metro Xbox movies, but also works for WMP)
Would it be possible that the process of rights click/play on a movie increases play count and adds a last played date/time just before it sends the movie to the default app

Just a thought (perhaps this should be in the suggestions section)

Interesting idea, Paul. We'll discuss this here. Thanks for the suggestion.

I use XBMC to play files on the computer running Mezzmo. XBMC supports DLNA/uPNP.
This way all counters etc are updated.
Cheers
