View Full Version : On-the-fly transcoding not working on ASUS SL 101 tablet

Hi,

I am using Android 4.0.3, BubbleUPnP with VLC, MXPlayer and DicePlayer.

In Mezzmo I assigned my tablet different profiles like "BubbleUPnP To VLC", "BubbleUPnP To VPLayer", "BubbleUPnP To MXPLayer", "BubbleUPnP", "Android To VLC" and so on. With none of them, transcoding on the fly works, so all I get on the tablet is some kind of error message "can't read file".

When I pre-transcode the same file, everything works smoothly. So it seems, the Profile I assigned does not show the real capabilities of my tablet. How can I change that? Thanks for your support!

I have the TF101, which uses the same Tegra 2 chipset, and transcoding works fine using the BubbleUPnP profile. I also set the max resolution in the profile to 1280x720 (1920x1080 is useless on the Tegra 2).

Thanks for your suggestion, but when I set the max resolution to 1280x720, all pre-transcoded files work, but the files, that are supposed to be transcoded on-the-fly still fail. Any more idea? :)

Okay, so I made quite some progress here. :)

1. instead of using a BubbleUPnP profile, I used the one for "Asus Eee Pad Transformer TF101"
2. then I followed the FAQ here to set the right user / passworf for my QNAP NAS - http://forum.conceiva.com/showthread.php/4597-FAQ-Accessing-files-from-external-computers-and-NAS-drives-on-your-home-network?p=18931#post18931
3. I changed the maximum video size in the Device Settings to 1200 x 800 and the Connection type to Wireless A/G/Y (instead of 100Mbit Ethernet)
4. I installed MXPlayer Pro (instead of MXPlayer free or VLC Player, which sometimes shows blocky pictures) on the SL 101

Now I can access all files on my NAS and get them on-the-fly transcoded, when necessary.

However, one thing is still not perfect... especially when accessing large MKV files, I still see some choppiness in MXPlayer Pro when things move fast, independent of pre-transcoding or on-the-fly transcoding. However, this might just be a limitation of my tablet (although CPU is around 20% busy).

Hope this helps everyone else, facing similar problems. :)

Glad you are up and running now. And, thanks for sharing all your tips.

Regarding the stuttering, see this FAQ for possible reasons and remedies - http://forum.conceiva.com/showthread.php/6538-Tutorial-How-to-reduce-excessive-stuttering-or-buffering-when-streaming-videos
