Hi everyone,

As I posted in my other thread, I'm new to Mezzmo, but have read and searched thoroughly without finding a resolution to my problem, so I'd appreciate any insight.

I've got Mezzmo running on a WHS2011 box and I'm playing videos through my Xbox360. I've tried a handful of files, and all suffer the same issue: use of the transport controls (ff/rew/etc) result in the video restarting play from the beginning of the file when I select play.

This occurs during transcode (which happened the first time I played each file), which I expected from my searches, but also happens when playing transcoded files as well.

Here is one of the files in question:

A 1080p MKV file:

In addition, the same thing happens with ISO files (Frozen - my kids favorite, and Percy Jackson Lightning Thief).

Is this just a function of my Xbox? That would be disappointing since it essentially makes movies unwatchable (since the Xbox doesn't seem to support menus either).

Thanks!

Doug

Hi Doug,

This is a limitation of the Xbox 360 firmware. The fix is to pre-transcode to either AVI or MP4 formats and the Xbox 360 does let you FF/REW with these formats. Right-click on the video in Mezzmo and click 'Pre-transcode Files' to pre-transcode the video. After transcoding has completed, you can play the video without FF/REW problems. See this FAQ for more help regarding pre-transcoding - http://forum.conceiva.com/showthread.php/6025-Tutorial-Pre-transcoding-Files

Hi Paul,

Thank you for your response. That is certainly disappointing since I've got several hundred files and don't really want to transcode them all, but XBox limitations are certainly no fault of yours!

As a follow up on the same topic, and since you have some insight into the XBox, should I be able to access the menu's when playing an ISO file? They all just start playing from the beginning with no ability to access menus, special items, etc. I'm guess that since I don't have transport controls I shouldn't expect ISO menu support either, but thought I'd confirm this is normal :)

Thanks again!

Doug

Hi Doug,

No - you will not be able to access the DVD/Blu-ray menus via DLNA streaming. You can only play the various videos contained in the DVD/Blu-ray ISO or DVD/Blu-ray rip.

I was hoping my additional research was wrong, but I guess not.

I promise I'm about out of questions, but what does DLNA / Mezzmo support as it relates to ISO's? In the couple that I have it only lists a single file to be played, but should I also expect the ability to jump from chapter to chapter (device dependent, of course - recognizing that my XBox won't do so, but maybe my WD Live might)? As an example, my daughters love Frozen, specifically a couple songs, so when playing through the DVD player they'll jump right to Chapter 3. Is this something that DLNA and/or Mezzmo even support?

I really appreciate the education Paul, so thank you for your attention!

Hi Doug,

Chapter points are typically embedded inside video files. Mezzmo streams the video with the chapter points. It is then up to the DLNA device's firmware playing the video to find the chapter points and let you move between these chapter points. From our experience, we have not seen many (any?) DLNA devices display these chapter points.

You are just full of good news today Paul :)

Seriously - thank you very much for all your help and support!
