View Full Version : Subtitle w/ Mezzmo Android and WD TV Live

Good evening everyone,

I have a question and need someone far more knowledgeable than myself to answer it.

I have a WD TV Live and when it sources content from my Win 7 Mezzmo server, I can select the appropriate subtitles using the WD remote button. The Audio button also works and allows selection of different audio tracks, if they exist.

All of that works perfectly.

However, after installing Mezzmo Android and using it to push content from the Mezzmo server to the WD TV Live, I have no subtitle or audio selections available. The Subtitle and Audio remote buttons do nothing.

Am I missing a step in using Mezzmo Android or is the Mezzmo server not set up correctly? Perhaps something with the WD TV Live?

Now, if it is the WD, are there any suggestions on a new media player that will select and use subtitles pushed from Mezzmo Android? Also, are there any media player that will display meta content from Mezzmo? The WDs will not display any meta content except for cover art.

Thank you.

Jim

Hi Jim,

Timely question - we're just looking into this now. Mezzmo Android app (v1.0) does not yet let you choose the audio channel or subtitles for a video. We will be adding this into Mezzmo Android in an upcoming new release.

When you push files to your WD TV Live media player using a digital media controller app like Mezzmo Android, your WD remote control is no longer usable for controlling playback of the file. This is a limitation/restriction in the WD TV Live firmware. So, until we provide audio channel + subtitle selection in our Mezzmo Android app, I suggest your workaround is to go to the Properties dialog of video in Mezzmo and select the preferred audio channel in the Video tab (and select the 'Only stream the preferred channels to devices' checkbox) and select the subtitles in the Subtitle tab. This will force your selections when streaming it to your WD TV Live.

Update: Mezzmo v4.1.0.0 and Mezzmo Android v1.1 have been released. In our Mezzmo Android app, you can now list and select the audio channels and subtitles for your videos for playing on devices on your home network.

Thanks Paul.

I'm been through the 1.1 app and don't see where those selections are made from.

Also, using the 1.1 app seems to be sending HTML entities to the player. For example, a media filename of 1x01 'First Episode'.mkv is displaying on WD TV Live as 1x01 'First Episode'

It also seems to be taking a very, very long time to populate the device list with the WD TV Live devices we have.

Paul,

One other thing in the 1.1 app. It looks like when selecting a file to play from Media, it's placing all the files in that folder into the playlist. Even long pressing a file and selecting Play File, it's still putting the folder files into the playlist.

Is there something that describes what the various control icons do in the top bar?

Hi Jim,
if you want to add just one file to the playlist you will need to long click on the item and select 'Queue File'. You can see what the various control icons do by selecting tips from and menu in the app (each page has it's own tips page).

The selection of audio channels and subtitles is made from the details page of the app, if you touch on the icon of a file in the media list you will see the details page and the audio channels and subtitles (if any are available) are listed.

I did find the audio and subtitles in the details page along with 2 edit selections.

I have a MKV with 2 SRTs; English and English Forced. Both appear in the app detail page and both are checked. I unchecked English Forced and clicked apply - no subs.

Am I using this right?

Check that transcoding is turned on for your WD TV Live. It may be required to embed or burn the subtitles that you have selected.

If still no success, then it's best we see a set of logs. Turn on logging in Mezzmo (Windows) (see http://forum.conceiva.com/showthread.php/419-FAQ-How-to-turn-on-diagnostic-logging). Restart your Mezzmo server. Now repeat the steps on Mezzmo Android to try to play a video with selected subtitles. When the subtitles do not display, stop your Mezzmo server and exit Mezzmo (Windows) app. Zip up all your logs and email them to us at support [at] conceiva [dot] com.

Hello, iam new to this forum ,
just registered here and want to ask -

Iam using the last version of Mezzmo for Android - 1.1.5, but i cannot find any settings for subtitles in the app menu.
Is is possible to activate subtitles (especially .srt files), when i am watching a movie thru wi-fi on my TV...?
Thanks in advance

Yes - you can select what subtitles to display on your devices using our Mezzmo (Android) app on your Android tablet or smartphone. You need to touch the icon/thumbnail for a movie on Mezzmo (Android) app (instead of touching the text name) and that will display the full movies details (e.g. title, description, tagline, actors, writers, producers, season, episode, poster, backdrop, etc.). It also display the currently selected subtitle. Touch the "Edit" link next to the subtitle section and it will let you choose from the available subtitles to display. Now play your movie and Mezzmo will stream that that subtitle with your movie. See this link for more details - http://www.conceiva.com/products/mezzmo/mezzmo_android_features.asp

If you don't see subtitles listed for your movies in Mezzmo (Android) app, then go back to Mezzmo (Windows) app and right-click on the video and click Properties. On the Properties dialog, go to the Subtitles tab to view all subtitles that Mezzmo has found for your video. If none are listed, then click the "Update Subtitles" button to force Mezzmo to search for associated external and embedded subtitles for the video. If still none are listed, then you may not have any embedded subtitles in the video or may not have named your external subtitle files correctly. See this FAQ about using subtitles in Mezzmo - http://forum.conceiva.com/showthread.php/5977-Tutorial-Subtitling-Basics.

Sorry, but iam unable to view any details for subtitles. I touched the icon of a movie from Media bar and it gave me a menu with options : Play the file, queue file, queue all files and so on...
When i touched the icon of a movie from Playlist bar it gave me a bigger view of a thumbnail for a movie, 5star rating and the duration of a movie in mins, nothing else...

I cannot use Mezzmo windows app, because i only have my smartphone and my TV and dont want to use any pc....:(

You should see something like this for your movies and TV shows:
http://www.conceiva.com/products/mezzmo/images/mezzmo_android_screenshot_details.png
If you scroll down the page, you will see the various details about the movie or TV show. If there are subtitles associated with teh movie or TV show, then you also see a "Subtitles" section on this page and the currently selected subtitle listed. Next to it will be an "Edit..." link. If you touch this link, then you will be able to select from the various subtitles that Mezzmo has found for your movie or TV show.

If you still don't see subtitles listed for your movies in Mezzmo (Android) app, are you connecting to Mezzmo (Windows) server or another DLNA server (such as Mezzmo Android's built-in server or another DLNA server on your home network)? If the latter, then that will explain why you don't see subtitles. Mezzmo Android app will only display & let you choose available subtitles from Mezzmo (Windows) server.

Iam using Wi-Fi network between Mezzmo Android app and Smart TV...
No mezzmo windows server...

Is there any chance subtitles to be implemented without using mezzmo windows server in next versions of the android app ?

P.S. On the above photo the device is my smart TV and the server is Mezzmo android app....

Understand your usage now.

Mezzmo Android app does find associated external subtitle files (.SRT, etc.) on your Android device and stream them to your devices. One restriction for this: If you "push" the video to your TV using Mezzmo (Android) app, then no subtitle is delivered. However, if you connect to and browse your Mezzmo (Android) server from your TV using your TV's remote control and then choose to play a video from Mezzmo (Android) server, then the subtitles are delivered. This restriction/difference is a quirk of the way that DLNA works.

I tried this way , but it was again failure. I used Mezzmo and one other app, but subtitles don't show in both cases...
Any idea why ?

It's best we see a set of Mezzmo (Android) logs and we may see what's going wrong. In Mezzmo (Android) app, go to Settings and turn on logging. Exit Mezzmo (Android) app and start it again. Now stream the video from your Android device using Mezzmo Android's DLNA server to your device(s) and when no subtitles are displayed, exit Mezzmo (Android) app. Run Mezzmo (Android) app again and go back to Settings to view your logs. Email this log file to us at support [at] conceiva [dot] com.
